Bonjour, Cliff the GOAT guide creating some static for some of the climbers out there. Ha, see what I did there? Static climbing is a deliberate and methodical approach to climbing, emphasizing careful placement of hands and feet, impeccable balance, and a deep understanding of body positioning. Unlike dynamic climbing, which relies on explosive power and momentum, static climbing champions finesse and controlled movement. Here are some reasons why some climbers prefer static climbing: 1. Reduced Injury Risk: There is minimal strain on finger joints and forearms, lowering the risk of overuse injuries. The emphasis on controlled movement prevents sudden movements or overloading the tendons. 2. Improved Technique and Problem-Solving: Static climbing cultivates efficient movement patterns and meticulous route planning. Climbers learn to analyze the route, identify the most effective sequence, and execute each move with precision. 3. Adaptability to Diverse Climbing Styles: the technique can be applied to various climbing styles, from bouldering to sport climbing and trad climbing. This adaptability allows static climbers to conquer different terrains and challenges. 4. Effortless Energy Expenditure: Static climbing typically requires less energy expenditure compared to dynamic climbing. This is due to the avoidance of explosive movements and the focus on efficient body positioning. In what ways do you lean towards the static way? 🧗♀️🧗♂️ Keep it humble! 🏔 Have you ever come across someone in the climbing community who appears to be overconfident about their abilities, despite having limited experience? 🤔 Well, you might be witnessing what experts call the Dunning-Kruger effect. The Dunning-Kruger effect refers to a cognitive bias in which individuals with low ability or knowledge in a particular area tend to overestimate their competence. In simpler terms, it's when people think they know a lot more than they actually do. 🤷♀️ In the realm of climbing, this phenomenon can have some significant implications. Some climbers, especially beginners, might believe they possess greater skills and expertise than they truly have, leading to potential risks and accidents. It's crucial to recognize this effect in ourselves and others to ensure safety on the rocks. 🚧 To combat the Dunning-Kruger effect, here are a few suggestions: 1️⃣ Seek guidance from experienced climbers and instructors who can provide valuable insights and mentorship. How much experience have really had? 2️⃣ Continuously educate yourself about climbing techniques, safety measures, and different terrains through reliable sources, such as climbing books or reputable online platforms. Keep learning! 3️⃣ Stay humble and open-minded. Accept that climbing is a learning process, and there is always room for improvement. 4️⃣ Participate in training courses, workshops, or join climbing communities where you can learn from others' experiences and exchange knowledge. Remember, the climbing community is built on a collective commitment to safety and growth. Let's support each other in recognizing and overcoming the Dunning-Kruger effect. Stay safe, keep learning, and may your climbs be filled with joy and adventure! 🧗♀️🏔🧗♂️ #ClimbingCommunity #StayHumble #LearnAndGrow

#sundayschool …………Ropes and Falling If you’ve ever been climbing at the indoor wall or outdoor on crag or mountain then you’ll probably know the first rule of climbing is “don’t fall!” However if you’re pushing your boudries while climbing at some point you may come unstuck and a fall is inevitable. A nice coil of 3 ply hemp rope tied off around your waist was all you had to rely on until fairly recently. These days a “Dynamic” Rope is used to take the shock out of the fall, these ropes are very stretchy and as long as no other factors interfere with the rope the climber should just need a change of pants and can climb another day! In rope access and caving a “Static”or “Semi-Static” rope is used as it has minimal stretch and beter to work on. There has been huge advances in climbing rope over the past hundred years and things are always improving to make them better, stronger and safer. As climbers say it’s not the fall that kills you, it’s stopping really quickly at the bottom that does the damage! 🧗♀️ #teamwork #climbing #adventure #rope #ropeaccess Island Ropes Mammut Sports Group AG BEAL Marlow Ropes Ltd
