Is it just me, or is anyone else finding it hard to reconcile Sam’s appearance of altruism in this article with the reality that simultaneously, WorldCoin is taking serious advantage of the desperation of populations in places like Argentina and Venezuela by getting them to trade iris scans for a mere $30 USD (which to those populations is like a week’s earnings in the desperation of their fallen economies. ) “Worldcoin is giving anyone that scans their iris 25 WLD tokens, which is roughly equivalent to USD $30 at the current exchange rate. In other words, a person can receive the equivalent of 1 week’s pay just by scanning their iris, in a country where 40% of the population lives in poverty. They don’t want their irises scanned, they are desperate for anything they can earn in USD. Worldcoin is a convenient way to get USD $30.” All the while other countries throughout the globe have banned worldcoin due to privacy concerns. https://lnkd.in/g5Wqfvbq The stated altruistic persona doesn’t exactly seem aligned with this practice.

SAM ALTMAN proposes ‘Universal Basic Compute,’ in which everyone would have access to a portion of GPT-7’s computing resources ✨ Sam considers that UBI should soon be approached differently: “I wonder if the future looks something more like Universal Basic Compute than Universal Basic Income, and everybody gets like a slice of GPT-7 compute,” said Altman, in the recent episode of the All-in podcast. "He said that this would not be in the form of money but as a share of productivity that could be used, sold, or even donated for initiatives like cancer research, etc." “I am not like a super fan of how the government has handled most policies designed to help poor people, and I kind of believe that if you could just give people money they would make good decisions, and the market would do its thing,” reminisced Altman, saying that he is pretty much in favour of lifting up the poor and eliminating poverty. What do you think? Do poor people prefer the chance of being more 'productive' with AI, rather than receiving UBI? How does this fit with Sam's iris scanning crypto project Worldcoin? Is just a commendable idea, or does it also offer a path to embedding OpenAI's AI models into government strategy? Is the choice of GPT-7 as a milestone a heads up in terms of expected timing? #ai #openai #gpt #compute #openai #ubi

Altman is a master manipulator and snake oil salesman, what he is saying must always be considered through the lens of what he is trying to achieve.

Data harvesting seems to get more dystopian and scary invasive. I just hope people will see through it and refuse to help big corps and government agencies to gradually take their own rights away.
