With World Architecture Day approaching next week with the theme ‘Architecture for Resilient Communities’, we are excited about the possibility which outdoor spaces provide in enhancing societal well-being. Balcony spaces provide the optimal connection between urban life and nature, utilizing design that is fundamentally simplistic in nature, but resilient and practical. To summarize this idea, we’d like to borrow a few words from Design Expert Jouni Teittinen: “With our skills, experience, and expertise, we can influence societal structures with our strengths – in this case, with quality products influenced by thoughtfulness, comprehensiveness, and systematic development. Lumon’s products aim to create more room for life, and to construct a future where outdoor living transforms the way in which we interact with our homes.” Architecture is a centerpiece to the development of resilient societies, and the way in which we interact with our world. As the benefits of glazed spaces continue to be studied, we move forward to a future, hopeful about the attention which balcony spaces deserve – not only for the benefit of residents, but for the sake of the longevity of our homes and our environment. You can read more about balcony architecture + its connection to a larger societal discussion on building design in our most recent PRO blog: https://lnkd.in/d_Sd8hGX #betterhomes #moreroomforlife #sustainabledesign #productdesign

Keen observations by Thomas Heatherwick of today's "global blandemic" in, particularly, urban architecture. Also have to love the gauntlet being thrown here by Heatherwick! I have often bemoaned the "glass tower of blah" approach to architecture--create a box, maybe the slight flair of an angled roofline, skin the box in glass, and marvel at your creation as it fades into a dystopian sea of similar glass boxes. Now, I do not wish to paint the entire architecture field the same color as the "glass tower of blah" crowd (Which would be the beigiest beige, by the way.). There are many outstanding examples of modern urban architecture that are artworks in and of themselves; crafting a vision of the urban space as vibrant, forward-looking, and exciting. Maybe it is the great capitalistic race to the bottom line by developers and governments? Maybe architecture has fallen into a status-quo moment? Maybe genuine design risk is too uncomfortable today? #architecture #modernarchitecture #urban #urbanplanning #design #risktaking #bottomline #statusquo

Understanding Architecture: Designing architecture to visually highlight entry is a classic move found in traditional architecture. Let's modernize it. Because urban homes are so vertical consider an entry highlight that extends up with the stairs. This creates a more modern urban aesthetic highlighting vertical living. #luxurylifestyle #luxuryhomes #newconstructionhomes #modern #modernhome #urban #urbanhomestead #downtownviews #nashville #realestate #realestateinvesting #newconstruction

Choosing the Right Ceiling Material It’s not just about looking good; it’s about sounding good. Some materials absorb sound, and some reflect it. Your choice can turn a noisy area into a peaceful space. Remember, how users experience a space is everything. The right material can make or break that experience. #ceilings #architecture #interiordesign

THE POWER OF SIMPLICITY IN MODERN ARCHITECTURE As practitioners of architecture, we are constantly seeking to strike a balance between form and function, between simplicity and complexity. In our latest housing project, we have embraced the minimalist aesthetic by designing modular houses that measure 3×3 meters and exude simplicity. However, this simplicity belies a more complex urban plan that allows for successive expansion. One could say that these houses embody the architectural principle of parsimony, or the idea that the simplest design is often the most effective. The 3×3 meter starting point of these houses allows for a certain level of customization and adaptability, while the ability to add on to the initial form allows residents to create a living space that is uniquely their own. But the real beauty of these modular houses lies in their placement within the urban plan. The site is tiled in a “chess-like” pattern, a symbolic representation of the binary principle at the foundation of all computer technology. By multiplying the initial form and arranging the houses in this pattern, we have created a visually stunning community that is a testament to the complexity that can arise from simplicity. It is a reminder of the age-old adage “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts,” and a nod to the philosopher Aristotle’s concept of the whole being “more than the sum of its parts.” #ModernArchitecture #Minimalism #ModularDesign #UrbanPlanning #SimplicityInDesign

Mixed-use architecture is not only a trend, but also a step towards more sustainable and functional design of urban spaces ♻️🌇 It is a response to the need to live in harmony with the environment, combining residential, office, retail and recreational functions in a single complex or building. This gives residents access to all the services they need without having to travel very far! ❎ The past of urban architecture has focused on designing areas and buildings with one specific function. ✅ However, social development, increased environmental awareness and changes in the way of life have forced a revolution in the approach to urban planning. Modern mixed-use neighborhoods that integrate different functions allow residents to live comfortably, minimising the need to move around the city. What do you think about this kind of concept? Share your opinion in the comments ✍️ #aluprof #architecture #sustainability

The way we have traditionally lived has changed significantly over the last few decades since PB&A was founded, with apartment living becoming more popular for both younger and older generations desiring greater flexibility in their lives and less of the constraints the traditional stand-alone property provides. Point & Miller rose to the opportunity to be creative, unique, and intimate in this type of residential development. Point & Miller’s brief was to respond to both its development objectives and urban context with a sensitivity of scale, textual aesthetic and simple diagrammatic whilst providing an affordable living option in this inner-city suburb.
