Deirdre Parker’s Post

Hugely grateful to the panelists who contributed their insights and expertise on this important topic to the staff of AHECS member institutions at the 2024 AHECS Biennial Conference. Psychometrics in Recruitment: How Can We Support Students to Compete with Confidence? was the title and the questions came directly from the AHECS community. The panel represented the perspectives of all relevant stakeholders including the Student, Employer, Academic and Professional Services, namely Claire Lenehan, Hannah Mahony, Sinéad D'Arcy, Siobháin Scanlon and Ultan Sherman (C.Psychol.Ps.S.I.) The wide range of topics covered included: 🔸Research on the correlation between test results and job performance 🔸 Advice on the appropriate use of psychometrics for screening and selection 🔸 Best practice tips for employers on the use of personality questionnaires 🔸 How employers can best support candidates with disabilities 🔸 The benefits of psychometrics from an EDI and applicant perspective 🔸 The reliability and validity of "gamified" assessments 🔸 Evidence-based preparation advice for job candidates 🔸 Best practice tips for employers on providing feedback to candidates 🔸 Advice from a recently successful graduate programme candidate The content of the discussion was captured in order to support staff members of the AHECS community in giving the best possible advice to students preparing to take psychometric tests and questionnaires when applying for jobs. Delighted to have collaborated with the AHECS Psychometrics Community of Practice Members on the inclusion of this panel discussion within an excellent AHECS Biennial Conference 2024 programme. Thanks for invitation to contribute to this discussion Deirdre and Michael. Apart from my impromptu coughing fit I very much enjoyed the conversation and some great questions submitted from AHECS members.
