Discover the origins of DISA! 📜✨ In 1960, the Defense Communications Agency was established to manage the Defense Communications System. By 1964, the DCA was tasked with establishing and maintaining communications in Southeast Asia, leading to the creation of operations that, by 1969, formed the basis of a regional network. In an interview with Managing Editor Ross Gianfortune, GovCIO Media & Research, United States Air Force Brig. Gen. Michael L. Cornell, DISA Endpoint and Global Services vice director, discussed the pressing challenges of connecting the United States Department of Defense workforce globally. Cornell explained that we service a large network of users across 20 sites on over 100,000 devices in multiple countries, including the Pentagon where we repel more than 50,000 attempted intrusions daily. Ensuring security while modernizing and optimizing our network for both cybersecurity and user experience is challenging. We must adapt to new technologies and approaches, prioritize our initiatives, and address the ongoing technical debt that any #IT organization faces. After growing up in Detroit's foster care system, Tamika Johnson joined the US Navy, holding roles like recruit division commander at Great Lakes and enlisted aid to Navy Vice Adm. Ann E. Rondeau. She also served at Camp David under President George W. Bush. Johnson joined the agency in 2010 after 20 years of naval service and a brief stint in industry. She leverages her experience to thrive on our Internal Communication team. She’s known for creating the DISA Look Book, which evolved into the DISA Employee Spotlight (like this one 🙂), highlighting employees who excel at work and in their personal lives. "My leadership philosophy is to lead by example. Every great leader should be willing to get in the trenches and do the work themselves," she says. Join us in thanking Johnson for her commitment to serving our nation, both in uniform and as a civilian! #WorkforceWednesday #EmployerOfChoice #DISASpotlight

To meet United States Department of Defense objectives, we align our priorities with those outlined in DOD-wide strategies like the Office of the DoD Chief Information Officer's recently released Fulcrum strategy. “It’s called Fulcrum because it sits at the nexus between our national security strategy, our strategic management plans, our big thinking strategies, our workforce implementation strategies,” Principal Deputy DOD CIO Leslie Beavers said during her fireside chat at AFCEA International #TechNetCyber. Beavers explained that she needs everybody's help to implement Fulcrum, and we’re ready to drive the mission forward. Learn more ⬇️
