The Munich Security Conference is in full swing. And one thing for sure is on the defense agenda: #drones. Due to the urgency that prevails on the battlefield, the traditional top-down model of military innovation is giving way to a more dynamic bottom-up approach. Development cycles in Ukraine are currently 8 weeks, compared to the years it takes the traditional #defense industry. At #MSC2024, Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation, stated that drones and Ukraine’s Army of Drones project have become the biggest gamechanger in the tech war. This year they plan to deploy one million FPV drones with the help of private companies. The next step is electronic warfare and robotics. His key message: Ukraine is the best testing ground for innovation in any area. Matthias Lehna, from our portfolio company Quantum-Systems, recently visited the Ukrainian Armed Forces' drone training centre. He found that knowledge transfer is key to increasing the impact of resilience technology.
