Bio-mimicry Why do architects populate trees on skyscrapers and pretend it works like a natural system ? It goes without saying that bio-mimicry has opened a floodgate of innovation in material chemistry and systems including breakthroughs in system design and Architecture But, a blind aping of nature makes architecture efficient , or is an aspirational moonshot ? More and more architects, I encounter, vouch the former than conceding the latter as their spiel, sounding architects more like Eco-fabulists. As Richard Feynman famously painted the analogous systems of nature inspired machines; airplanes as an example. A fluttering airplane would be inefficient and may even be a dangerous flying machine, not withstanding Avtars ! We may still have a long way to go till these green-clouds in urban contexts really achieve the ecological equivalence of a natural forest of the same footprint . #biomimicry #performativeenvironmentalism #ecofabulism #ecofantacies
