Recognizing the evolving needs of customers across the region, the Tidewater Board of Directors have approved the design and engineering of a new, state-of-the-art refined liquid products barge. This initiative is part of a strategic plan to replace older, less efficient barges, significantly enhancing our fleet’s safety, efficiency, and environmental stewardship. Poised to begin the construction of up to four of these advanced barges following the initial phase, Tidewater is firmly committed to aligning our resources to meet future demands and seize market opportunities. These cutting-edge barges will bolster Tidewater's ability to seamlessly serve customers on both sides of the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho, facilitating the transport of eco-friendly fuels via the safest and most efficient mode of surface transportation. Water stewardship is a critical aspect of water management, highlighted by SRK's associate partner and principal environmental geologist, Lindsay Shand. In the face of climate change challenges, societies and economies must prioritise resilience and sustainability in their water management. Water stewardship entails the use of water that is socially equitable, environmentally sustainable, and economically beneficial. It involves considerations such as water governance, water balance, water quality, identification of water-related areas, and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices. Collaboration plays a vital role in tackling systemic water risks faced by businesses. Shand emphasises that effective responses to such risks require appropriate water stewardship, where companies improve their on-site water management and build a better understanding of the catchment in which they operate. Water stewardship also provides opportunities to collaborate with partners regarding the management of shared water challenges. Enbridge Inc. and Divert Inc.—a food waste management company expanding into renewable natural gas (RNG)—are moving forward with construction a wasted food-to-RNG plant in Longview, Wash., marking the first project to move forward under the companies’ broader $1-billion infrastructure development agreement to jointly expand RNG supply while combating climate change in their respective industries. As part of a deal completed on Sept. 21, Enbridge and Divert will invest nearly $100 million to build the Longview Integrated Diversion & Energy Facility (IDEF), which will process up to 100,000 tonnes/year (tpy) of wasted food from retailers and other companies in Washington and Oregon and transform it into carbon-negative RNG, the companies said in separate releases.
