Senior leaders have control over the credit union’s resources, the strategy guiding the trajectory of the credit union, and its investments. They also govern the messaging going out to the organization and the flow of accountability. Like politics, consulting can be a brutal business. Often, the environments you go into are fraught with challenges. Humza Yousaf's decision to resign as First Minister of Scotland is a profound one. In his resignation speech, he talked about honouring his principles instead of cutting a deal to hold onto power, which demonstrates his integrity as both a leader and person. I admire him for the stance he took. When the performance of a business can be improved, it's imperative that clients are told what they need to know, not what they want to hear. Small CUs Leadership Dialogue: Secured Advantage FCU We all know small credit unions face many unique challenges, and I’m proud to be part of a growing group working to help more of our small credit unions grow and prosper.   I had an opportunity to lead an education/dialogue program with Secured Advantage FCU of Simpsonville, SC. Kudos to the Board of Directions, Senior Leadership Team, and the Supervisory Committee members for committing the time to further understand and discuss their unique challenges as they consider their best opportunities for next level success. Five years ago today, I was elected as chair for Memphis LEPC, marking one of my first external positions ever held, much less one I was voted into. Honestly, for anyone engaged in financial co-operatives (credit unions and the organizations that support them), this program is a fabulous network and knowledge building week. The post below highlights bursaries for younger leaders, but the program is for all ages and stages in one's career. This is the type of immersion experience like few others that I've experienced. One week in Halifax could turn into much more...... building relationships with others across the country and around the world; opening up opportunities for international experiences and an international designation (if you so choose). And, of course, it will make you a better, smarter leader.
