To CPD, or not to CPD: that is the question? Well, the answer is YES! The ARB, Architects Registration Board has been given new powers in the Building Safety Act 2022 to monitor the training and development architects carry out throughout their careers. The aim of this is to support architects’ commitment to continued learning throughout their professional lives and uphold public confidence in the competence of the profession. The ARB’s scheme will be introduced in 2024 and it will be mandatory. This means all architects on the UK Register will have to confirm they have undertaken CPD (Continuing Professional Development) on an annual basis and this commitment will be a condition of their ongoing registration. The RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) requires 35 hours a year of CPD, which is recorded online. 20 hours are core CPD Topics, the remaining 15 hours are of choice. All of the CPD recorded will be logged on portals via the relevant bodies. I personally welcome the move and believe it will give clients greater confidence when researching and using a qualified registered chartered architect. Many things change over time, with new techniques and materials coming on board, so it is important to never stop learning. As the saying goes ‘every day is a school day’ and long may that continue. #london #croydon #sutton #reigate #banstead #epsom #ewell #amlarchitects #architect #architects #architecture #riba #RoyalInstituteofBritishArchitects #arb #registeredarchitect #charteredarchiect #ArchitectsRegistrationBoard #cpd #continuedprofessionaldevelopment #continuingprofessionaldevelopment

The environment around us influences our sense of sight, touch, smell, hearing and even taste. Hence the idea of the environment being the third teacher remains a catalyst for learning. However, with time, society evolves, and so should the buildings around us, including educational buildings. In the piece below, our principal director and Architect, Landseer Collen unpacks the importance of acknowledging technology as a fourth teacher. I’ve not read the technical report but if the headline is true this will have huge implications for the construction industry. I’ve not been convinced on any of the modularised units I’ve inspected on sites over the past 9 years. Call me old fashioned but I love solid bricks & blocks. Do it once & do it right as opposed to throwing up poor quality, non robust building with poor performance & a short lifespan. #construction #modernmethodsofconstruction #sustainability

Learning environments play a crucial role in student success, which is why the Elizabeth Woodville School called on us for a transformation. Research indicates that various elements can impact someone's learning capabilities. Distractions, such as ambient lighting and temperatures, can easily prevent students from staying engaged and absorbing the information during classes. The Elizabeth Woodville School in Northamptonshire is an inclusive comprehensive school located across two sites, which are used interchangeably by the staff and students. Their north campus is a 1960s building which had retained its original single critall windows. Unfortunately, they were noted to be in poor condition, which was leading to little insulation in the winter months and challenging to open in the spring and summer months. They were having a negative impact on the learning environment, and the school wanted to change this. ECP provided full end-to-end support to the school, with a transformational end result. From successfully applying and securing CIF funding to enable the replacement of windows and doors to a large portion of the buildings, we also undertook the design, specification, construction management and project management throughout the whole process. Architects are focusing on safety features to keep perpetrators out and create a sense of community for students. High-profile school shootings, and the fear they spread, are shaping how architects design the modern American school. The safety features, some required by state law, include measures meant to keep armed perpetrators out and to help first responders. #architects #design #safety

The CPD also focuses on the following: Reviewing Government's commitment to a ‘fabric first approach’ to zero carbon through regulations. Typical specification of Part L and Future Homes Standard for fabric compliance. An introduction to various climate change initiatives while exploring embodied carbon as a primary target on such initiatives. We look forward to meeting the students and lecturers at the University of East London. Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT) #CPD #unilininsulation

Q: Hey Re:Vision, what are you doing for Earth Day? A: Hi! Thanks for asking! We’re celebrating the world’s FIRST Core Living Building Certified project at Muhlenberg College and we’re really excited about it! International Living Future Institute created the Core Living Building Certification using 10 non-negotiables from the Living Building Challenge as the baseline to make our communities good for everyone. We’re really proud of the work of the entire team on this project, which met certification requirements after demonstrating 12 months of energy and water use that were above requirements. We think Core Living Building certification is a game-changer for everyone who owns, designs, or constructs building projects. It’s a holistic look at what our building projects should be doing as an entry to regenerative practice, where our work can exist in balance – or as a benefit – to the natural, built, and social communities around it. Oh, and most of us biked, carpooled, took transit, or walked to work today. #AuthenticSustainability #CoreLivingBuildingCertified #EveryDayIsEarthDay #FirstInTheWorld Muhlenberg College The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company BSEG, LLC Thriven Design Keystone Consulting Engineers, Inc. Time to celebrate another #LivingFuture certification! This is not your typical certification. This is 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻! HUGE congrats to Fahy Commons at Muhlenberg College, located in Pennsylvania (USA), on achieving your Core certification (part of LBC 4.0)! Fahy Commons, designed by Re:Vision Architecture, is a 20,000 square foot building used by students, faculty and school administrators. While not a Core requirement, the team performed a post-occupancy evaluation. The majority of participants identified the building as beautiful, and a safe and healthy space. Students and staff alike requested to be in the building more than 'standard' hours because of how much they enjoyed being in the building. The project was able to exceed the energy performance requirements even with the unexpected additional use. This new building includes 29 #Declare products, 18 more than required, representing 13 manufactures including Wilsonart and Nucor Corporation.
