Lean In! Prep Store: Closing Argument   In January of this year, an intra-State group of Blind and Low-Vision High School Students were brought together to learn, work, and grow. They learned that Bosses are not Kings, no meaningful project gets done without a team effort, and everyone’s unique skills can be converted into income, which is the key to independence. They set out to envision what the Prep Store would sell, how much, and to whom. They developed and executed a startup plan and spent the last 5 weeks selling their wares. Each member of the Lean In! Prep Team grew as a result of the experience. They became more responsible to their team members and the quality of their task execution. They also grew in utilization of technical skills learned and income from the wages they earned. Finally, they learned that it is always profitable to “pay it forward” By dedicating some of their proceeds to The Greater Detroit Agency for the Blind and Visually Impaired (GDABVI). This Coort of Lean In! Prep ends, Friday June 21, 2024. Then, all profits after the GDABVI donation will be paid to the Team members in a bonus for their hard work. How can you help? Thanks Stupski CEO Glen Galaich and Pia Infante for naming and sharing. -- We need to give tidal waves not teaspoons (of funding) -- The 5% payout = a teaspoon structure. -- The flaws of strategic philanthropy—too donor-centric and focuses on donors to determine strategies and  pathways for action. -- The silo’fication of philanthropy: We work only on “this X issue” to the exclusion of all variables that make up the interconnected crises we face and the polycrisis world we live in -- Need to right size and re-imagine the role donor preferences play (to be in deeper accountability to the communities we serve)
