Digital audio was the fastest-growing online media channel in 2022 and 2023, with consumers in the United States spending nearly 3 hours a day streaming music and podcasts, according to the IAB and Global World Index. While social media captures over 2 hours of consumer time per day, it commands a significantly larger share of advertising spend—$65 billion in 2023 in the United States, compared to $7 billion for digital audio. However, this imbalance is set to shift. In The Trade Desk’s latest annual Sellers and Publishers report, 2024 is expected to be the year digital audio is set for takeoff.
