If you've appreciated Crappy Funding Practices, here's an opportunity to get involved. As Vu Le summarized: "Behind these posts on LinkedIn are teams of volunteers spending hours communicating with folks who nominate funders, vetting submissions, crafting the call-outs, engaging with social media, developing list of resources, planning meetings and organizing, etc. It’s a lot of work and right now all volunteer-run. We need more people involved. So, if you’re interested in helping out, please join a special meeting we’re hosting on May 14th at 10am PT / 1 pm ET, where we’ll update you on what’s been going on, and present the different options for you to plug into." Win more grants and raise more money for your agency with training, keynoting, and coaching from a seasoned pro who has raised more than $100 million and trained more than 10,000 people worldwide.
Check out the latest blog post from my HayDay Services partner, Amanda Day. Raise your hand if you’ve ever been frustrated because a funder website: ▪️ Sent you round and round but never gave you information on their grant funding process ▪️ Shared who they awarded grants to, but never gave information on their grant application process ▪️ Told you they have shut down their open application process while they are conducting a new strategic planning process ▪️ Hid the fact that they don’t accept unsolicited proposals, wasting your precious time reading a million other things before stumbling on that tidbit ▪️ Did not share any contact information ▪️ Provided a list of Frequently Asked Questions that don’t answer a single question you have about their grant funding process Now that you’re raising your hand, know you’re not alone. In January, I joined Boyd Grants as their part-time Research Specialist, and since then I’ve been knee deep in grant prospect research projects. And let me tell you, the more I dig, the more I wish funders would understand the work of grant seekers. If I could wave my magic wand and “fix” a few things, these would be at the top of my list. Want to hear a grants tip that doesn't get talked about often enough? The importance of building strong relationships with grantmakers. We're talking about the importance of cultivating relationships with grantmakers and program officers who care about the kind of work you do. This means attending networking events, engaging in meaningful conversations, and seeking opportunities to showcase your organization's work. Building authentic connections can increase your visibility and open doors to potential funding partnerships. But we're also talking about the "care and feeding" of your current relationships! Don't forget your current funders in the quest to expand your network. Following through on what you say you're going to do when you do win grants, and keeping communication strong with the folks that are already supporting your work is also key.

Donors Can Do Better By Linda Mwesigwa for CDA Collaborative Learning Projects's From Where I Stand series If donors are very honest with themselves, they will acknowledge that their desire for credit may be greater than that for impact. Otherwise, they would not be competing with their implementing partners for publicity. They would be satisfied with the success of their implementing partner as being their success, too, by implication. I have seen these all too familiar dynamics between donors and in-country implementing partners. The story often unfolds something like this: Read More: https://lnkd.in/g3BHnBsn
