Passionate Purpose-Driven Executive | International Mission Leadership | Former Technology Executive at LPL, TIAA | Board Ready | Infrastructure & Security Strategy | Leadership of University Recruiting

Stepping out on Faith A month ago I took a step of faith to do more mission work and retired after a great 32-year career in technology and executive leadership.  The events that have unfolded since then have been affirmation of that somewhat scary change to make.  My wife and I had a few weeks of quality time with our children and grandchildren, reflecting on what’s most important in our lives in this next season of life. Last week I had the privilege to lead a team of 24 men, women, and children ages 11-76 years old on a Filter of Hope trip to Panama.  Many of them were on their first ever mission trip. I am so proud of the steps of faith each person took during the week as they grew spiritually and stretched themselves to do new things working together as a team. The most common phrase by the end of the week from the team members was “this was a life-changing experience!” In total we installed filters for 98 families in desperate need of clean water in Panama.  The people of Panama were a wonderful group of people to serve in love and some of the family members we met have jobs like call center employees for companies we all recognize.  It was a joy to be able to provide clean water access to so many people. In addition to providing the filters, we shared John 3:16 and the good news of the gospel of God’s love through Jesus to 169 people, and 99 of them made an important decision that will change their lives for eternity. On our fun day and trip back through the airport we continued to run into people thirsty for the living water, and saw another 29 lives changed forever by the power and grace of the gospel.  I am learning to better trust God’s guidance and take the steps of faith.  The leadership skills I have learned over the years in business, coaching sports, and servant-leader roles in church have helped prepare me for this career change. And I am continuing to learn new skills daily. Next up is a similar Filter of Hope mission to Guatemala along with my wife Karen and our team of church members and friends, including some former work colleagues.  We are super excited! What’s next for you?  Are you considering a step of faith of your own? Or are you interested in learning more about Filter of Hope for yourself, your business, or your church? I would love to hear from you.
