On International Cancer Day, Roche stands at the forefront of a global mission – a collective commitment to #ClosingTheCareGap in #CancerCare.
World Health Organization estimates that cancer leads to nearly 459,000 deaths each year in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. Over the past five years, around 1.6 million people in the region have faced this ongoing challenge. It places a heavy burden, both physically and emotionally, on individuals, families, and communities. Annually, approximately 734,000 individuals receive a cancer diagnosis, and by 2040, it's expected that this number will rise by about 50%*.
As part of our mission, we recognize the crucial role a holistic care approach plays in bridging the gap for individuals living with cancer. We must take into account a range of aspects that contribute to a patient's well-being, including mental health, spiritual needs, and overall quality of life. Through this approach, we aim to ensure that every cancer patient is met with personalized care that extends beyond medical aspects to enhance their overall well-being.
In Egypt, Roche’s collaboration with the Egyptian Government on a Breast Cancer presidential initiative was created through a shared vision to ensure equal access to the highest global standard of care regardless of social status. Roche provided support for early detection through screening and diagnosis, building laboratory capability and capacity and establishing Multi-Disciplinary Teams for better patient management. Over a three-year period, the collaboration led to more than 29 million women screened with a 50% decrease in advanced stage breast cancer.
Furthermore, we've signed an MOU to collaborate with the Qatar Foundation focusing on enhancing the country's capabilities for personalized healthcare. We are actively supporting the capacity building of the Qatar Cancer Society by conducting awareness campaigns on personalized care. And we're assisting in developing their expertise in innovation and design thinking while aiding in processing patients' financial support requests.
In Saudi Arabia, we are working with King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center to develop the capabilities and infrastructure to carry out advanced testing for patients living with cancer, including Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Comprehensive Genomic Profiling (CGP). This testing is a vital step towards enabling more personalized approaches to cancer treatment.
I personally believe that achieving progress in cancer care is a shared responsibility among multiple stakeholders. Therefore, we must engage in joint efforts to continue to address the challenges. We are commited to fostering innovative solutions and inclusive approaches aimed at improving the accessibility, effectiveness, and equality of cancer care for patients.

Barriers to #access are complex and far-reaching, and every country faces its own unique challenges. At Roche, we are committed to a world where access to quality cancer care is equal for all.
As the inspiring examples in this video show, meaningful, sustainable and systemic change is possible. The catalyst for positive change lies in multi-stakeholder partnerships where governments, organisations, healthcare professionals and communities unite behind a common goal.
Together with our partners, Roche is proud to have helped establish:
- A systematic screening programme to drive earlier diagnosis and treatment of cervical cancer in the Philippines, where 11 women die every day of the disease.
- Specialist oncology nurse education and training in Indonesia to foster patient-centred care. With the involvement of over 50 partners, the programme has now tripled its reach, leading to a more specialised workforce and improved patient outcomes.
- Sustainable financing solutions for and investment in cancer care resulting in many more patients receiving the diagnosis and treatment they need, regardless of economic status, including a new cost-sharing model in Nigeria and support for Georgia’s Universal Health Programme for Oncology.
Rooted in partnership and collaboration, each of these initiatives offer hope. At Roche, we remain committed to doing all we can to help #CloseTheCareGap in cancer care and bring about lasting change.

Juneteenth is an opportunity to reflect on our ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for all Illinoisians. Through Molina Healthcare’s partnerships with the Chicago South Side Birth Center, Social Change, Herban Grown Chicago, the Black Chamber of Commerce of Southern Illinois, and others, we are bringing wraparound care and education directly to those who need it most, in pursuit of improved health equity and outcomes for all.
Black Illinoisians in particular face disproportionately high rates of diabetes, breast cancer, infant mortality, and other key indicators of health. By partnering with community-based organizations, we can bring resources such as redetermination support, record expungement resources, and health information directly to underserved Illinoisians. Events this month commemorating Juneteenth include the Annual Juneteenth Block Party, a Juneteenth Celebration and Expungement Summit, and the 1865 Juneteenth Fest, and are just a few of the ways through which we empower Illinoisians with the tools for a healthier, more fulfilling life.
It's National Caregiver Month, and we are celebrating our dedicated team members who help others with all of their heart! Thank you so very much for all you do!

Illuminating Kindness
Imagine a world where the simplest acts of kindness can cast a warm glow in the darkest moments. Within the hushed confines of hospital corridors and the stillness of patient rooms, these acts have the power to transcend the ordinary and weave extraordinary stories of resilience and compassion.
🌟 A World of Ordinary Heroes:
In the world of caregiving, heroes don't wear capes; they wear scrubs and stethoscopes. They are ordinary people with extraordinary hearts, and their kindness radiates like a beacon of hope.
✨ Moments That Transform:
In the quietude of a hospital, moments unfold that are nothing short of magical. It's the nurse who takes a few extra minutes to comfort a frightened patient or the janitor who leaves an encouraging note on an empty hallway.
🤗 Compassion as Currency:
Compassion is the currency of these moments. It's the language spoken by all, transcending barriers and differences. It's the universal force that binds patients, caregivers, and families together in shared humanity.
🕯️ The Power of Small Gestures:
It's in the small gestures that we find the most profound expressions of kindness. A gentle touch, a reassuring smile, or a listening ear can illuminate even the darkest of days.
🌈 Resilience Born from Compassion:
Kindness not only touches the lives of those who receive it but also strengthens the spirits of those who give it. Caregivers find their own resilience nurtured by the compassion they extend.
Conclusion:
In the world of hospital corridors and patient rooms, kindness is the shining star that guides us through the darkest nights. It's a reminder that in our most vulnerable moments, we are never alone, for there are ordinary heroes who light up our paths with extraordinary acts of compassion.
So, let us celebrate these unsung heroes and their stories of kindness. Let's be inspired to carry their light into our own lives, illuminating the world one small act of compassion at a time.
Have you witnessed or been a part of a heartwarming act of kindness in healthcare? Free to share your experiences, and let's continue to inspire each other.
