Safety must be a top priority for all places of worship in today's world. By creating a secure environment, we not only protect congregants, visitors, and the facility itself, but we also foster a welcoming and inclusive community. It's important to note that increasing firearms without training is not a safe practice. Instead, investing in security training for staff and volunteers, implementing surveillance systems, and collaborating with local law enforcement to develop emergency response plans are all well-thought-out good practices to maintain. #safetyfirst #churchsecurity #emergencymanagement #emergencypreparedness

Following the Surgeon General's declaration that gun violence is indeed a public health issue, KPIX | CBS San Francisco/Bay Area's Jose Martinez interviewed me in my capacity as Youth ALIVE!'s Director of Development and Communications about what Oakland's community based organization for violence prevention, intervention, and healing is doing to disrupt the cycle of violence in The Town following the tragic shooting during Oakland's Juneteenth celebration. "We're working on it. We're healing people. We're preventing violence. We're saving hundreds, possibly thousands of lives every year. " More on that here: https://lnkd.in/grKWJBqy

Citywide Clergy Collective (C3) on Faith-Led Approaches to Gun Violence Prevention It is our goal and life’s work to reduce the violence in the communities in which we serve as faith leaders. Gun violence and the loss of life has a significant and traumatic effect on families and the communities in which they reside. This Clergy Collective (C3) will prove to be proactive by providing engaging activities, information, and training that will deter further violence in our communities. Through our collective work, our hope is that there will be a significant reduction in the number of handgun violence that have overtaken our communities. With coordination by strong clergy leadership, the sharing of responsibility for public safety with Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS), Office of Faith-based and Community Partnerships (OFCP), New York Police Department (NYPD), 67th Precinct Clergy Council, Inc. (The GodSquad), law enforcement, social service agencies, and violence interrupter organizations can be the co-producers of public safety. During the 1940s and 1950s, Clinton Duffy worked as a prison warden. He worked hard to rehabilitate the men in prison. As his efforts became more well-known, a critic said, "You should know that leopards don't change their spots!" Warden Duffy wisely responded, "You should know I don't work with leopards. I work with men, and men change every day." I heard this simple story over a decade ago for the first time, and it has stuck with me ever since. The best part is we can choose who we want to become. To do this we need to "connect" to our future selves. Here are my favorite ways to connect with and stay connected to our future selves: 1. Create a Vision Board 2. Journal about who you want to become 3. Leave doubters out of your life Hope you all have a great day and feel an increase of hope for your ability to become your best self. #Success #Journaling #Wellness
