The Friends of The National Archives AGM This week on Tuesday 18th June the Friends of The National Archives or FTNA as it is also known, came together once again in person and also via remote link. As with any AGM we heard how the FTNA is doing, followed by the details on the financial accounts. Emmajane Avery from the National Archives also talked us through some of the events held at Kew, that the FTNA has supported this last year. Such as the celebration display, ‘More than a Uniform: Celebrating NHS 75’. Emma also updated us on how exhibitions shown at Kew are now being transferred to other sites around the country. The ‘Spirit of Invention’ display transferred to the Newcastle Discovery Museum after it finished at Kew. The National Archives, UK are now in talks with another site, to extend this exhibitions life, still further at another location. Collaboration between archives and museums is really important, especially when it allows a much wider audience to be able to view these wonderful displays and exhibitions elsewhere in the country, enabling those unable to travel to London to experience them. We then then heard from our President, Professor Clair Jackson-Trinity Hall Cambridge, who discussed her latest book, a work still in progress, so sorry no spoiler alerts here 😊 other than to say when it is released next year, it will be a fascinating read on not only an important individual in British history, but a period of history rarely discussed in its fullness. Clair later did a book signing of her last book Devil-Land for members. I was lucky enough to catch Clair afterwards to chat. The Magna (the FTNA’s members magazine) editor filled me in on the upcoming release of the next edition. This will be the largest copy yet, at a staggering ninety-two pages and will be covering a wide breath of different topics across many different centuries in history. I look forward to reading it, as it sounds like a fascinating and insightful read. If you would like to join The Friends of The National Archives, I have included the link here. https://ftna.org.uk Membership includes publications of the FTNA magazine Magna, as well as other benefits such as 20% off the National Archives bookstore. Behind-the-scenes tours and upcoming talks programs, plus access to the FTNA blog and podcasts. #FriendsofNationalArchive #FTNA #NationalArchive #Kew #London #DiscoveryMuseum #Newcastle #ClairJackson #Author #Professor #Archive #Museum #History #AGRHistory
