D-Day80 in Bingham, Nottinghamshire The Photo’s show Bingham’s Royal British Legion at the D-Day remembrance Thursday 6th June 2024. The evening was marked firstly by RBL, and it was lovely to see them turn out, with the moving sound of the bagpipes being played. Next up was the wonderful voice of Thomas Markwick a student at Toot Hill Secondary School, who entertained with an array of songs from the time. Which the crowd enjoyed and even residents of the local care home were dancing along too. A big thankyou to their carer’s, who had brought them down, even though their own shifts had finished, they certainly were enjoying themselves. We had our local artist Tim O’Brien capturing in paint the events of the evening. The turnout of young and old alike was lovely to see. As dusk fell, we heard again, a few words from the RBL and then it was time to light the lamp of remembrance as well as the towns beacon. Followed by a firework display, which was enjoyed by all their, both veterans and civilians alike. Bringing a lovely evening to an end, and all though there was a slight chill in the air, the rain thankfully held off!
