What a night! We had a great time this past week celebrating the 4th of July at the FC Dallas game in the Gallagher suite with some of my fellow colleagues Carol Colley, Marisa Gonzalez, MBA, SHRM-CP and Carrie Wilkes and our family and friends. Not only was the post-game firework show one for the ages, but FC Dallas got the win!

As a life-long resident of Michigan, I have to say there is something to Dan Campbell. It cannot be ignored, believe me, I tried. I am a Tampa Bay Bucs fan myself. However, Dan has a massive amount of passion for turning what was truly a joke of a team (I am being brutally honest) into something that we (as Michigan Residents) can truly be proud of! The sheer grit, passion, and intensity that he and Brad Holmes have is undeniable. Their dedication to this team is without question remarkable. Putting a team together takes a lot of thought, conversation, and the ability to look ahead. How might this individual be right for the team? Does this individual fit our culture? Will they bring positivity to the team? How will things look after the first year, or even two? These are all important and extremely relevant to our professional lives - even outside of sports. Kudos to Dan and Brad for what they have done. Leadership Inspiration 101: Appreciation As you head into 2024, brands and leaders will continue to face expected and unexpected headwinds. As a result, a committed team will lead the day. While King Henry isn't a coach, he is a leader by simply exercising one winning principle, sharing appreciation. A leader, you may be asking how does this apply to me? It applies to you if you lead people... 1. When was the last time your thanked your team for their efforts? (Annually during the holidays doesn't count 😀). 2. What is the frequency that you share thanks with your team, others throughout your organization, your external partners and most importantly your consumer? We live in a world of data, performance metrics, etc. and yet I wonder how many leaders reading this actually track their appreciation/thank yous? How many leaders is this "second nature" to and don't need to track? One of my favorite quotes is from Maya Angelo, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Imagine how the people that King Henry called out at the press conference that has since gone viral feel today? I am willing to bet, he didn't just say Thank You today, he shows his thanks everyday and as a result made them feel special and a part of the team. That is what great leaders do! With appreciation/thanks...I challenge you to do "More in '24", your team will appreciate you back! Thanks King Henry for giving us a model to follow!! Onward and Upward!

I love listening to Dan Campbell, every time I find another clip on the net somewhere - there is always some small gold nugget of truth, of wisdom, and passion in it. The problem in business today, is there are oh so few leaders who will put it all out there, put everything on the line, and risk it all. Not being reckless - but taking calculated risk outside of our comfort zones! My observation over many decades - there are too many employees, too many managers, and too many executives who just want to play the game and survive to the next 'game'. Just hang on to the job, hang on to the title, hang on to the office and the perks. Always jockeying for position or planning the next moves to the next promotion - instead of working to create legendary legacies for their colleagues, their companies, their clients and customers. May we model the spirit and ethic of Dan Campbell, and regardless of our position or station in life - may we play like LIONS! #leadership

Detroit Pistons fans, have you been keeping up with Jaden Ivey's performance this week? On Wednesday, he started against the Los Angeles Lakers, playing 19 minutes. The following day, he came off the bench against the New York Knicks, playing 13 minutes. In a recent vlog, I discussed how the Pistons have accumulated talent rather than built a complementary team, leading to redundancy in their roster. While Alec Burks may be a better fit next to Cade Cunningham, the player they're building around, I believe Jaden Ivey should start. The notion of Red Bull, an energy drink synonymous with extreme sports, backing a breaking/hip-hop event, seemed far-fetched. Yet, it materialized in the most unforgettable manner, setting a new benchmark for breaking events worldwide. The event's success the following year raised the bar to new heights, surpassing any expectations within the breaking community. This experience was transformative for me, reshaping my career path entirely. Though I began my college journey as an engineering major, I quickly pivoted to marketing, driven by the events that unfolded. I launched and led an agency specializing in youth marketing with a focus on dance, which evolved into a 360 full-service marketing and advertising agency. Operating with over 20 full-time employees, I navigated both successes and challenges, learning valuable lessons about timing and the importance of valuing people along the way. Now, 23 years after that inaugural event in 2001, I find myself at the forefront of this project for Red Bull, the very project that altered the course of my life. I am tasked with the opportunity to reinvent and revive this legendary event in the most remarkable way possible. With the event looming on the horizon, my determination to maximize this project's success has never been stronger. I'm aiming to surpass the past, to recreate history.
