Chairman of the Board at Marriott International

On this day 97 years ago, my grandparents opened a nine-seat A&W root beer franchise in Washington, D.C.    J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott poured their hopes and dreams into the business, one mug of cold root beer at a time. They grew the business into The Hot Shoppes restaurant chain and then opened our first hotel in 1957. Now here we are, the Marriott International of today — nearly 8,900 hotels in 141 countries and territories.    They would be proud to know that Marriott associates around the world are carrying on the tradition of taking good care of guests, each other, and their communities.   Congratulations to everyone in our extended Marriott family and thank you for being part of our story.    #MarriottInternational

Dear Marriott Team,I hope this message finds you well. My name is John Garrison, and I had the pleasure of working at Marriott in the sales department. I am reaching out today to share a deeply personal story and to seek your understanding and support.A little over a year ago, while in the process of looking for a new home, I was forced to resign from my position despite giving proper notice. This unexpected turn of events left me in an incredibly challenging situation, ultimately leading to a period of homelessness. Despite the difficulties I have faced, my passion for my work and my love for the Marriott brand have remained unwavering.During this time, I have stayed in a shelter, trying to rebuild my life and regain stability. I have always held Marriott in the highest regard, not only for the exceptional experiences we create for our guests but also for the supportive and inclusive environment we strive to maintain for our employees.I am writing to humbly request an opportunity to return to the Marriott family. My experience in sales and my dedication to the company make me confident that I can once again be a valuable asse that may be available.Warm regards,John Garrison LinkedIn Profile johngarrison330@gmail.com

As a proud and privileged employee for 20+ years..my sales team were asked to chose from the list for of 31 brands (at the that time 2017) and present the history and attraction their chosen brand represents..when I reached the list last but not least..I was thrilled when J W Marriott brand was still there to present..I give it my all..only J W Marriott himself deserves a Stellar performance..WE ARE J W MARRIOTT (all of our brands) we met our husbands..had families..made many forever friends..all because we are part of the J W MARRIOTT family..and what a story 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹

This brings back so many memories — many of which are not mine! My dad moved to DC from Los Angeles to take a job at the new World Bank. He was living in a boarding house and had not had yet made any good friends that first east coast Thanksgiving and wound up eating alone at the Hot Shoppes in Hyattsville. He was so lonely-looking that his waitress was concerned and he felt himself starting to cry. He vowed then to work hard to meet people. He moved in with colleagues, met my mom at a company mixer and after a lot of Mighty Mo and milkshake dates, they married and had me. My pediatrician’s office was at Van Ness and Wisconsin and Mom always took me to the Hot Shoppes on that corner after my appointments, especially when a dreaded shot was involved. The Hot Shoppes in Bailey’s Crossroads was the place my fellow HS theater and choir kids celebrated after our shows and concerts. And it was where my best friend and I had a long heart-to-heart discussion about whether or not she should marry her now-husband. There are many more other great Marriott memories, but now that my parents are gone, the Hot Shoppes days are particularly sweet to remember. Congratulations!

What a wonder celebration to both of them. They were so kind to a young Director of Services at the 1st Marriott to open in Salt Lake City in 1981. Met them as I was double checking/inspecting their room before they checked in to attend our grand opening. Mr Marriott spoke at our manager staff meeting. His advice was “We all can have bad habits, even me. I would always advise each of you to mind your bad habits cause I’ve never seen anyone get fired for good habits”. By the way the grand opening started with JW Sr driving a model T Ford into ballroom.

They are amazing people who I am grateful that I was able to know them. They certainly made the world a better place because of the lives they lived.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you and everyone at Marriott International for the incredible impact the company has had on our family. My sister-in-law, who has special needs, proudly worked as a dishwasher at Marriott for over 25 years. Her time with Marriott was not just a job, but a source of pride, community, and stability for her. Thank you for fostering such a positive and inclusive workplace culture.

I enjoyed my 15 years with Marriott back in the 70’s and 80’s when J Willard and Alice were still around and especially enjoyed my last few years with Marriott at Twin Bridges and spent a few lunches with them in the Fairfield Inn as they were regulars for obvious reasons. Thank you Mr and Mrs Marriott.

That’s the same day Charles Lindbergh took off from Long Island on the world’s first solo, nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. According to History dot com, he barely cleared the telephone lines at the end of the runway and his greatest challenge was staying awake for the 33-1/2 hour flight, he had to hold his eyelids open with his fingers. Incidentally I learned yesterday randomly that Amelia Earhart spent a year in Northampton, Massachusetts recovering from a sinus infection and passed the time learning to play the banjo. That’s according to Wikipedia.
