I was asked a question on a previous interview about scope creep on an Agile project. My answer was that there couldn't be scope creep in an Agile project. Let me explain: A Scrum team is made of: "* A Product Owner who maximizes the value of the product that results from the work of the Scrum Team * Developers who create the product * A Scrum Master who helps the team improve its practices and effectiveness" (https://lnkd.in/gvJJV3m8) The Product Owner is the one providing the details of the product through User Stories and the Developers assisted with the Scrum Master break the Stories down to work items. Not much is known from the Scrum Master or the Developers about the product initially, product knowledge is gained throughout the Scrum. Agile allows for incremental changes and 'improvements' in order build the best product. "Scope creep is a term used in project management to describe what happens when the project management team agree a specific scope for the project with the customer or project stakeholders, only to find that more elements are being added to the project scope as they move along. In a project management environment, this is problematic because the entire arrangement is designed to identify what needs doing upfront, how long it will take to do the work, and within what cost constraints the work must be completed. The team then follow the plan and deliver against predetermined and agreed deadlines. Agile, on the other hand, embraces the idea of change – even late in product development – because the focus lies in delighting customers rather than simply following a plan. So, whilst the scope creep is dreaded in the project management world, the agile world invites changes to the plan, as and when necessary, to ensure that the team are creating and capturing value for the customer at every stage of the product development process."
