Exploring a historic Deutsche Bahn track with a modern twist! 🚆 It's being resurrected for a research project of autonomous transport. Thanks to the University of Kiel REAKTbahn project, Sascha Kaven (Hamburg University of Applied Sciences ) and I had the pleasure of meeting the brilliant team, including Sven Ratjens and Prof. Reinhard von Hanxleden. 🤝 Our journey began with real hand-driven carts (draisiner) and will in the future transition to driverless trains, showcasing the evolution of rail transportation. 🛤️🚀 One of the fascinating challenges we encountered was managing one-track with trains going in both directions, with specific points to pass each other. 🚧 The question arose: "Who has to wait, and who can go?" The answer, intriguingly, is "it depends" – dependent on priorities, environmental factors, and attributes. 🤔 This is where Attribute-Based Authentication (ABAC) plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth flow. 🙋♂️ To conclude IBTTA's Global Road Safety Week, we would like to show an example of how ROADIS, as an industry, is constantly looking for new ideas to innovate and contribute even more to the safety of users. 🚧🚨📲 This project was implemented in 2022 by the Concessionaire of the A-4 in Madrid. It involves automating a process of warning highway users through the popular navigation portal Waze. Every time the signalling arrows of a highway maintenance vehicle are raised, a notification automatically appears in the application indicating, in real-time, where the highway vehicle is stopped so that the user can drive with special caution. 💡 This is a success story for ROADIS as a project developed in one of the company's concessions through our #innovation funnel. It was a really good day yesterday meeting many friends and colleagues in the industry wanting to share learnings, knowledge, and experience of good practice at the Airfield Pavement Forum at Heathrow Airport! Thanks to Ossian Stefan Olsén Louise Harris and Alkmini Karastamati for putting it all together! it's clear a lot of hard work goes into organising such an event! 🤘👏 Really interesting talks from Airports about their challenges giving lots of food for thought on how we as an industry can rise to the challenge! My BIG take away is how much outside the box thinking is needed to come up with new and innovative ways of tackling these challenges. #innovation was a key talking point. It is the case that a careful approach to trying "new things" is the current practice, for reasons which are obvious, though it doesn't sound like 'true' innovation. For 'true' innovation in the industry we need to take more risks, but in a high risk environment it is clear that the sharing of knowledge and experience of trailed successful and failed innovations is essential. Initiatives like the Pavement Forum are good places for this Maybe a shared test bed for all testing of a new product, or a digital innovation to remove some of the 'in-field' trials such as digital twins?
