If you think plant-based burgers are healthier for you than beef burgers, you are absolutely and without question RIGHT. And if you think otherwise, you are being mislead by an intentional disinformation campaign funded by major multinational beef and pharmaceutical corporations who make huge profits by confusing millions of well-meaning people like you. #plantbased #meat T.K. "If you think real beef burgers are healthier for you than petri dish lab "burgers", you are absolutely and without question RIGHT. And if you think otherwise, you are being mislead by an intentional disinformation campaign funded by major multinational anti-animal ag activist orgs and pharmaceutical corporations who make huge profits by confusing millions of well-meaning people like you." There, corrected the bullshit you are spreading. You're welcome.

Hi David. Are you not an international disinformation campaign as well? The comparison doesn’t work for NZ beef where it is grazed on fresh pasture and you are not allowed to use additives that result in the compounds you . mention. Protein is not a particularly important nutrient. What about the nutrients that beef is an important source of like micronutrients and trace elements. Beyond Burger would be very low in these. Should be considered if you want a reliable comparison.

Nice overview, but why link “no-gmo’s” to more healthy?

Why no mention of Sodium? I've seen stats saying per burger Beyond Burger is ×5 that of a raw beef burger (380mg vs 75mg). Is this correct?

Firstly I'd like to state I'm a vegetarian but the way in which you've mocked up this ad is incredibly duplicitous. There's over 20 ingredients in Beyond Burger, including seed oils and maltodextrin but you sidestep this conveniently by just saying "NO GMO". I don't think you're ever going to win the purity test of "better for you" against a food group that has over a hundred years of dietary data. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-017-17373-3 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6409436/

As a nutritional science grad and life-long vegetarian, while I agree that plant-based diets are the healthiest choice and that a diet high in meat can be harmful to one's health, I do want to point out that the saturated fat and cholesterol argument against meat is outdated and does not represent the latest science that points to sugar, oxidation and inflammation as likely factors in heart disease, not saturated fat and cholesterol. Organic meat would also be free from GMOs in the animal feed, antibiotics and other pharmaceutical agents. The main reason why a plant-based diet is generally healthier and why virtually every study that has looked into this has found lower rates of chronic disease in people who consume more plant-based foods is likely due to the high levels of anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, phytonutrient-rich, gut-healthy prebiotic fiber-rich foods in their diets versus meat which can be full of parasites and cancer-causing viruses, contains no phytonutrients or gut-healthy fiber, is oxidizing, inflammatory and in high amounts can acidify the blood leading to calcium loss from the bones. All in all, it's still not a healthy choice but not necessarily because of the saturated fat and cholesterol.

David, I always find it interesting when people talk about food and dont mentions taste and texture two of the major reasons people choose a particular food. You might also want to add vitamins and minerals to your list for comparison.

I'm happy that Beyond has improved their recipe from the original ones and at the same time glad for not having beef patties like in the comparison in my hoods.

Anybody wishing to elevate their knowledge base on this particular topic could consider following Geoff Palmer Ⓥ🌱 . He consistently supplies information on the benefits of a plant based diet based on real scientific evidence and actual evidenced data. I suspect that he would wholeheartedly agree with David Meyer but add in the missing nutritional and environmental data. P.S. as far as funding misinformation goes, ask yourself where the wealth lies... with the carrot farmers?

I agree with you but you are doing what you accuse others of. Including the antibiotics etc in your equation, and it’s true that most beef has it. But there is something about nature that trumps science sometimes. Eating an animal that has roamed around eating a good diet trumps beyond burger
