Software-as-a-service has long been a core tenet at Microsoft, and this collaboration proves that their strategic focus has never wavered. With Xbox soon being available on Amazon Fire TV, it is undeniable that their push to broaden the reach of their subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, is in full effect. For Amazon, this is a great opportunity to realize the (once-tried-but-failed) potential of Fire TV as a game console, while taking advantage of the success and popularity of Fallout (both the show and the games) and other Xbox IPs as they inch their way closer to incorporating video games as part of their value proposition to consumers. For Xbox, this demonstrates their ability, as a software, to integrate seamlessly into smart TVs and TV boxes, as well as to steadily run games on their cloud servers. As cloud gaming depends heavily on internet connection and server capabilities, it would be a huge milestone, both technically and reputationally, for Microsoft should they pull this one off successfully. However, it now begs the question, what is "Xbox," as a video game console, if you take the "box" part out of the equation? And how would Xbox shift their brand positioning "post-hardware" if their long-term plan is to integrate completely-digitally into as many other devices as possible? The latest game was announced for Xbox consoles last year with a 2023 promise, and Xbox Cloud Gaming players will also be able to stream Age of Empires IV.Age of Empires IV originally launched in late 2021 on PC, and Microsoft added the title to its PC Game Pass service. Microsoft has added a tutorial to the console port of Age of Empires IV, which helps players get used to the controller layout. There’s also optional cross-play multiplayer support between PC and Xbox players and full keyboard and mouse support.Real-time strategy (RTS) games aren’t an obvious fit for consoles and controller play, but Microsoft released Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition earlier this year, and we found that it plays great. Xbox gave away some of its exclusive games.... so what? 🤷♂️ News: Microsoft will release four specified video games on alternative consoles, presumably both the Sony PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch My take: The race for acquiring gamers between the two big console beasts Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's Xbox has been there for decades. I have been on both sides. The Xbox side and the Playstion side. I played both consoles and at a moment in time, I had both at the same time before I switched to Xbox and then later PC. I have been quite involved with the console gamers community. It was extremely rare that someone would switch from Playstation to Xbox for the exclusives. By now everyone knows that Playstation has the better exclusive games hands down. The competition was Xbox = Better Deals and offers (Xbox game pass and others) Playstation = Better exclusive games As someone who didn't play many exclusives, Xbox seemed the right choice for me for better deals. Yes, I enjoyed the exclusives of course but it wasn't the main reason I switched to Xbox in 2018. Are exclusives that appealing on Xbox? NO ❌ . The offers and memberships are the appealing part. So I don't get why there is a huge frustration coming from Xbox fans.
