The Weapons and Tactics team has written a Security Brief on the Congress of Peru’s approval of a legislative resolution allowing the US to assist in intercepting aircraft used for transnational drug distribution, and on the national referendum in Ecuador on security-focused proposals intensifying the fight against organized crime and gang violence. The Peruvian resolution voted on April 18 enforces the Non-Lethal Aerial Interception Agreement signed between the US and Peru on August 24, 2023. The implementation of this agreement will likely increase Peru’s dependence on US military support and intelligence to fight narcotraffic, likely increasing pressure and criticism against the Peruvian government. The US's renewed involvement against drug trafficking will very likely disrupt the Peruvian cartel's drug routes, likely forcing them to reorganize and seek alternative means of distribution. On April 21, Ecuadorian citizens voted in favor of President’s Noboa plans to extend the emergency powers decreed and deploy the army to fight gangs, extend prison sentences for convicted drug traffickers, and expedite the process of extraditing accused criminals. Ecuador will very likely conduct large-scale military operations to disrupt illicit substances and arms supply chains transiting through its territory to and from mainly Colombia and Peru, very likely leading to mass seizures and arrests. The new security measures will likely lead to further arrests, very likely increasing case volumes and requiring more judicial proceedings and legal representation. This doesn't come down to 'Republicans support this action and Democrats don't..." In fact, this should have nothing to do with politics, this is a taxpayer issue that speaks to how our tax dollars are allocated. To have people entering this country unabated and provided instant benefits that at-risk citizens have not been afforded for decades (including all colors of people, AND our veterans) have not been provided, or has to 'jump through hoops' to qualify and apply for, is a wild of a proposition as it gets; TAXPAYERS, regardless of what political party we support, should (together) take action and raise concerns.... this should be part of a unified effort to question the level of fiduciary responsibility, on the aggregate, that these two political parties have failed to demonstrate over the last 75 years...and if necessary, take the constitutional steps to reinstate the requirement of the legislative branch to seek approval of the people to spend dollars on any foreign policy pursuits (yes, at one point in this country's history that was a thing).

What Is #Extradition? #Extradition Under #American #Law The Constitutional basis for state-to-state extradition is found in the Extradition Clause, Article IV section 2 of the U.S. #Constitution. The Statute #implementing #extradition is Title 18, Sect. 3182 of the US CODE . Further extradition guidelines are to be found in the Uniform Criminal Extradition Act, adopted in many states. The #extradition #process enables governments to bring Fugitives #abroad to JUSTICE , but it can be #fraught with #political tension, even when a #treaty is in place. #Extradition is the Formal #process of one state surrendering an individual to another state for #prosecution or #punishment for crimes committed in the #requesting country’s #jurisdiction. It Typically is Enabled by a BILATERAL or #multilateral #treaty. Some #states will #extradite without a #treaty, but those cases are rare. What are the Alternatives to #extradition? And that’s why Seth Rogen said that he and other Jewish people were “fed a huge amount of lies about Israel'' and cited this lie as an example, saying “they never tell you that, oh by the way, there were people there“. So is it really that surprising that Israeli soldiers have now killed over 12,000 Palestinian children after Israeli leaders repeatedly call Palestinian children things like the "children of darkness” and say they are “Amalek”, implying that they should all be slaughtered (as Netanyahu has said), and say “there are no innocent civilians in Gaza” even though 50% are children (as Israeli President Herzog did)? And Israeli leaders and media repeatedly tell dehumanizing lies like the 40 beheaded babies lie, and say that this conflict started on October 7th, denying the many atrocities and injustices against Palestinians in the months before and over the past 75 years, from the ongoing ethnic cleansing and dozens of massacres that started in 1948, to the brutal illegal occupation and apartheid since 1967, to the brutal illegal blockade and repeated bombardment of Gaza since 2005 that have consistently killed over 50% women and children every time. What Israel is doing now is genocide & our government is helping them do it. In addition to killing over 12,000 Palestinian children in under 5 months, Israel has orphaned over 25,000 more children, & has made over 900,000 children homeless during winter. And Israel is still blocking aid to these children, killing them with starvation, dehydration, & disease, in addition to U.S. supplied bombs. I also cry for the 36 innocent Israeli children killed on October 7th, but this horrible conflict did NOT start on that day. The proof is the nearly 2300 Palestinian children Israeli soldiers and settlers killed between the year 2000 and October 2023, including 43 children during the 9 months just before October 7th (all names & details documented on BTselem.org). Not to mention Israel’s brutal 57 year occupation/apartheid, and the blockade of Gaza since 2005 — both illegal under international law, and simply immoral and inhumane.

The most dangerous situations develop when #publicsafety elements are ill equipped, unmotivated and unprepared for civil unrest. This motivates the bad actors who detect fear, incompetence, indecisiveness and above all - a political directive of restraint against law breakers, and become more brazen by the day (as we can clearly see happening over the last 3 months). At he same time, law enforcement clear indecisiveness degrades public trust in law enforcement ability and will to provide security and protect them. The visuals of a police force being surrounded, pushed back, attacked but not responding with appropriate force, widespread arrests, public trials and punishment communicates the clear message: "we can't even protect ourselves...". Thus, one of the key elements and central features of any security strategy (especially when it comes to counterterrorism), DETERRENCE, is freely given up. Seems like #metpolice leadership and the politicians providing its directives are playing a very dangerous game by demonstrating restraint against a mob the majority of which are illegal immigrants, visa holders and citizens with criminal records. While some European governments are acting appropriately, arresting, trying, jailing and deporting law breakers - British authorities are betting with the British public safety.
