I was talking with Paul Patane about one of my previous videos (where I say TikTok is a search experience, not a search engine) and he told me agreed with me other than one part of it. He said he agrees that Google is not a trustworthy source for recipes anymore - but that he wouldn't trust TikTok either. I mostly agree with him... but I felt compelled to make another video on the subject. (And if you want access to these videos sooner, follow us on TikTok from the link in bio to see the videos before they make it to LinkedIn.) #searchexperienceoptimization #sxo #tiktokisasearchengine #tiktokisnotasearchengine

I use TikTok more for food tutorials than recipes. I made a BLT the other day but I didn't have mayo so I went on TikTok and learned how to make it in 30 seconds. If I'm looking for inspo I typically do what you said - hit NYTimes Cooking or Bon Appetit. Or look at a book. The food blogosphere / Google searches are a nightmare for recipes.

Oh I wanna join this convo!!! Cook books are almost like authoritative content that someone has gone and curated and approved that it is good enough for print. Usually the author of these books are chefs which have a solid background (authorship/authority) because if someone is putting their brand at risk and the recepies are shit, no one is going to buy it and a poor reflection of them. So yes, this is why cook books usually have higher seen authority than some random blog that starts out how their great grandma found & first started picking wild rice in 1935 and it’s become a generational wild rice soup recipe… did I mention wild rice enough for SEO? 😂

Huh…. I use AllRecipes + the New York (?) thing… but I find your entire video interesting. Because you’re telling me (and whoever else watches this video) what their behaviors are online… do you have research for these conclusions? I come in peace, not to argue. Your video sounds like your opinions / online behaviors projected outward. Language is important. I find it most effective to use “I” statements, and let the folks on the other end decide if they relate or not to what I say about myself. Thanks for sharing dude!

You would think Google would be smart enough by now to read the content for recipes and populate the direct link within SERP to the actual recipe within the content. I will always skip your 6000 word article and “Jump to The Recipe” while simultaneously closing 5 video ads. But the mere fact we have to do this shows there is opportunity for improvement. Have you seen all the recipe shortcut websites that are built to simply declutter recipe webpages!?

"Tiktok...it's a different kind of nightmare" needs to be on a shirt. Also, cookbooks rule.

Tom Wambsgans -- St Paul legend.... Googling recipes = the online cookbook TikTok = Omakase, "I'll leave it up to you, TikTok" X = Cheesecake Factory, seated next to countless loud and opinionated booths.
