The 2023 #GPPatientSurvey results are in - a national survey which shows how patients feel about their #GP practice, covering areas such as opening times, ease of getting an appointment, patient experience and quality of care received. As a local #NHShealthcare provider, this survey is a good 'litmus test' for the performance of practices in DHC GP Federation, both on a micro-level and when compared to county and national averages. We're pleased to say that the performance of practices operating within our four #PrimaryCareNetworks remains at a high standard. Overall #PatientSatisfaction within DHC is 82% (5% higher than last year), with the following headline results: 👍 Integrated Care Partnership (ICP) #PCN in the #Epsom and #Ewell area, went from 62% patient satisfaction in 2022 to 81% in 2023 - an impressive leap since they joined us last year. 👍 #Dorking PCN remains at a consistently high standard, with 90% patient satisfaction. We are particularly proud of the practice team at Leith Hill for achieving 97%, the highest score in Surrey. 👍 #Redhill Phoenix and South #Tandridge PCNs are achieving above the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership (the commissioning group for #NHS services in #SurreyDowns and East #Surrey). 👍 Pond Tail GP Surgery in #Godstone has jumped from 50% to 77% - a tremendous improvement and testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team involved in its transformation over the last year. Behind these numbers is always the drive to ensure patients have the best access and care. If areas are identified for improvement, we'll work towards that goal. We also acknowledge that times are tough for GP practices everywhere, with many pressures and changes happening within #PrimaryCare. These struggles are real and are also reflected in the survey results. We cannot talk about sustainable healthcare without acknowledging the amount of single-use products going through the healthcare systems - every day, for every procedure. This is a difficult one, that requires re-thinking beyond making sustainability improvements item by item. Take a look at the powerful film below.

It's a dirty secret of the medical world that it generates so much waste whilst caring for us. #nhsengland alone estimates nearly 160 000 tonnes of waste annually (https://lnkd.in/eNXDJfEe) The problem is compounded by the #economics. #medicaldevice & consumables companies may benefit from waste-as-profit; the hospitals understandably struggle to manage waste reduction against other priorities. Those specialising in #wastemanagement may even profit from #wastetoenergy as they incinerate clinical waste, and have little interest in reducing the throughput from the hospitals who are paying them for every truckload. And it's not just in disposal. There's also huge energy and chemicals usage (and presumably waste) in #sterilisation and #decontamination of the reusable stuff. While I can't comment on how well their solution works, I love the way Mölnlycke Health Care have visualised the problem and are making progress in addressing it. The disposable medical 'gauntlet' has been laid down...

In home care for acute decompensated #heartfailure promotes community based, patient centric care, and importantly, #ageinginplace. This is key in chronic heart failure, where many patients also struggle with #frailty and multiple co-morbidities. In our #communityparamedic pilot, we explored logistics and feasibility of in home IV diuresis for #ADHF and observed increased times at home after hospital discharge. Maximizing time at home and out of healthcare facilities may become increasingly important for quality of life.
