OPN Festival is in just 2 weeks time in London. If you run a studio or agency I would thoroughly recommend THIS for your Producers that work with audio houses and composers. We are running a FREE workshop for anyone already attending OPN Festival interested in the managing side of our work. Its called 'Managing Soundtracks'. You will learn how to manage a soundtrack smoothly from conception to delivery, understand how to bridge the gap between the client’s expectations and the perfect audio, learn the best practices for the audio process, and how to collaborate effectively with composers and sound studios. We’ll discuss the issues that regularly crop up and talk through an easy-to-understand summary of audio licensing. There will also be a myth-busting session, where we’ll clear up some of that jargon that often gets in the way. Who is it for? This session is designed for those who manage creative productions, such as Producers and Directors. It’s also for visual artists interested in expanding their knowledge of the audio management process. (NB Just to be clear. This is not a creative session learning about composing and sound design.) https://lnkd.in/etPz3DKH #producer #executiveproducer #execproducer #creativestudio #creativeagency #workshop #free #education #director #sounddesign #agency #commercials #advertising #animation #CGI

Ted X Speaker "Sound Designer at Mixbox Studios | Sound Design, Sound Editing, Foley Artistry, Audio Post Production | Industry Expert in Acoustics & Sound Mixing | Filmfare Award Winner | Open for Global Ventures"
Prepping for a Smooth ADR Session 🎙️ As a sound designer, I take a lot of care in preparing for ADR (automated dialogue replacement) sessions with actors to ensure we capture clean, emotive audio. Here are my top considerations: 💡 Choose the Right Studio - Having access to a high-quality recording studio with proper acoustic treatment and audio gear is essential! 🎤 My ADR Chain: Sennheiser MKH 416 boom mic Neumann U87 microphone Neve preamps Pro Tools for recording and editing This setup allows me to capture rich, broadcast-worthy dialogue with lots of character.🌟 🗣️ Communicate Expectations Clearly - I make sure to have a conversation with the actor ahead of time to align on the tone, emotion and context for the lines. Strong communication sets them up for success! 🤝 🎧 Find the Right Mic - Every actor's voice is unique, so I test out multiple mics during the session to make sure we use the one that flatters them most. Finding their perfect sound makes all the difference! 💕 📝 Review the Script Thoroughly - I carefully study the script to identify any complex passages or pronunciation questions. Being ultra-familiar with the content keeps the session moving smoothly! 🤓 ⏱️ Plan Efficiently - I plan out an achievable schedule for the session so the actor doesn't feel rushed. Taking short breaks helps maintain energy and vocal freshness! 🏋️ 💾 Post Session Check and Backup -An Actors time is precious ,you don’t want to miss out on a take and realize it after the actor has left the studio.Offer them coffee and take time to check once done take a back up . Let me know if you have any other ADR tips! I'm always looking to improve my sessions. 😊#audiopostproduction #adr #dubbing #dubbingartist #localisation #netflix #sounddesign #sounddesigner #voiceoverartist #mediaeducation #filmcourse #filmmaking #audioeducation #recordingengineer #recording

Since graduating from the NFTS, I've learned some key lessons as I specialise as a Sound Effects Editor, especially regarding the mix. My recent experiences at Twickenham, mixing my work and ongoing time in the mix on my current project, have highlighted the most critical points. I want to share these with you; hopefully, they're valuable! 1️⃣Premix: Before handing off your work to the mixer, carefully balance your tracklay. The film should sound good enough that a non-informed audience could watch it and think it's okay. If reverb is critical for a scene, consider rendering it on a track below. I've made the mistake of leaving too much work to be done in the mix, which takes away valuable time. Remove unwanted artefacts using EQ, and pan backgrounds and FX 2️⃣Session Layout: Keep your session layout neat and logical. Label your tracks clearly and consistently. This allows the mixer to quickly locate specific elements; you don't want them wasting time searching for tracks. They will likely have a template they want you to work to - it is your job to abide by this to keep things as smooth as possible 3️⃣Communication: Maintain open communication with the mixer. Share your vision for the project and discuss any creative choices you've made. Contact them beforehand and maintain an open dialogue throughout. Whilst you have spent weeks on the project, they are new to it. This is great as they can bring fresh ideas, but there will also be things you have implemented in collaboration with the director - this must be communicated to them 4️⃣Options: You should provide the mixer with options, like neutral backgrounds in case your atmos is too distracting, and ensure everything is covered. The mix is often about experimenting; music and dialogue can often be lowered or muted on the fly. You don't want to leave a section bare with nothing underneath. You can supply options for sound design and leave them muted below By delivering a top-notch premix, an organised session, and fostering clear communication, you'll be well on your way to achieving a sound that truly captivates your audience #sounddesign #mix #mixing #audio #soundeffects #postproduction #soundtrack

"You don't want to leave a section bare with nothing underneath... you can supply options for sound design and leave them muted below" This is perhapne of the best tips I've read this year so far, it changed my mindset from creating a piece of work, to delivering the best piece of work I can possibly create

This short demo is my first project in the field of sound design, as a complement to my original music compositions, with the aim of developing and promoting my work and seeking creative "engagement" - partnerships in the world of cinema, theater, television, gaming industry, advertising and podcasts or other exciting projects. The individual videos, provided for free by generous creators, are silent, illustrative in nature, randomly selected and voiced by me to simulate a realistic atmosphere, emphasize specific visuals and provide a more immersive experience. SOUND DESIGNER TIPS These are super useful if you work on film or game sound design in REAPER: 1. Modifiers to manipulate the volume, pan, and pitch and easily copy items. 2. Listening to a media item from the mouse position without having to solo the track. Tip: I keep two REAPER installations (a portable one for sound design, where I use the shortcuts and modifiers I show in the video) so that I have different workflows for SFX and music composition. You could do the same if you have different needs! #mixing #recording #ReaperDAW #musicproduction #editing #sounddesign #gameaudio #postproduction

We’re proud to announce that the CEDAR VoicEX voice extractor has been shortlisted for an Association of Motion Picture Sound (AMPS) Technical Award 2024. Download the 14-day free VoicEX trial here: https://lnkd.in/eVjYDDT3 This is the twelfth year of the AMPS Awards, and the Awards Event will take place on Sunday 7th April 2024 at The University of Greenwich, where the Association will be presenting two Technical Awards - one for technical excellence in production sound and the other for post. VoicEX sets a new standard for real-time noise reduction. Indeed, it's close to being a magic button and yet it's so simple to use that novices and experts alike can achieve remarkable results with the minimum of fuss and effort. Where you might expect numerous controls, you'll find just two knobs - one to determine the loudness of the background, and the other to control the loudness of the speech. Reduce the former to make noise and excessive reverberation go away. Reduce the latter, and the voices go away. Increase either to emphasise that part of the signal. It takes no time at all to master, but the results can be truly amazing. #cedaraudio #dialogue #noisesuppression #noisereduction #audio #productionsound #audiopost #audioediting #audiogear #mixing #postproduction #sound #soundediting #ampsaward #amps

The power of SFX 🤯😱 We stripped back the voice and music and let the SFX do the talking. Sound is something that is commonly overlooked in content. Creatives care a lot about the way things look but what about how they sound? There is something satisfying about a clean shot with perfect ambience and clean SFX. Quite often we will spend almost as much time on our sound design as we will on the visuals. Here are a few tips for editors that I try to use: 💚 Opt for high-quality, rich SFX from reliable sources to ensure a full sound experience. Cheap alternatives noticeably lack depth compared to premium options. 💚 Capture ambient sounds directly on set for the most authentic audio quality, replicating real-life environments. 💚 Avoid using identical SFX consecutively in your edits, such as whooshes, to prevent a flat and monotonous sound. Incorporate a variety of at least 8 different whooshes to maintain freshness throughout the edit. 💚 Experiment with sound manipulation techniques like slowing down, pitching up, layering, and staggering to generate diverse and unique auditory outcomes from a single sound source. These are just a few of the considerations we make in our edits. #sfx #sounddesign #adobepremiere #editor #videosound #soundeffects
