Youtube channel for my personal brand ArtechFuz3D is now live. Starting off with an older project from 2023, I programmed a custom state machine to handle the animations and triggers in cue with the audio. This is my 3D recreation of Daft Punk - Aerodynamic, featuring the 4 musician anime characters from their Discovery album. My early days of 3D and animation, the software at the time, did not have traditional animation tools so I rigged the characters using groupings to create child-parent relations with each group then having its own animation. Combining various groupings in a single trigger allowed me to create some simple movements. Did someone say Gimbal lock 😄!? Eevolver just completed CGI production on Travis Scott’s, #CircusMaximus, a new film released in AMC theaters, in concert with his #utopia album Eevolver worked with Cactus Jack Films and Jason Chen to recreate Catalonia, Spain’s famous Tarraco arena in CGI along with a tournament of human towers (Castellers) in which he himself participates. It is a technically impressive piece revolving around castell, the Catalan human tower sport. https://lnkd.in/g_ymMT9C CGI Human Towers https://lnkd.in/gccsX9pA The Tarraco arena interior and exterior were accurately replicated in CGI and filled with over thirty thousand CGI spectators. The CG crowds had to seamlessly match the look, motion, and clothing of the live action extras. Eevolver’s team created and integrated over 30,000 CGI humans using both 3D and 2D techniques, matching the real and tactile world these scenes were based on. The project was shot on Film Negative in Spain using various Arriflex cameras that required special attention. While photochemical film has a rich look and feel it creates added steps to the process. Lead Compositor Kenneth Quinn Brown was instrumental in ingesting the footage, deflickering, stabilizing, comping and regraining back out to EXR files that could be used in a color session. A 3D version of the station had to be created to make the CG crowd believable. This was created by using on set photography that VFX Supervisor Mark Wurts brought into Reality Capture to create a model from over 500 photos. This model was further refined by Stephen Schirle in Houdini. The model along with the crowd was rendered by Nick Deboar using Redshift. The lighting was achieved by combining HDRS domes built by Mark Wurts and several Redshift lighting rigs. These renders were brought into Nuke and composited. While 3D provided comp with several CG crowds in some instances it became necessary to replicate some people in 2D. compositors looked through all the available material and, in some instances, "borrowed" performers from one shot to add more in another. This approach worked very well. By mixing multiple techniques and approaches the overall effect was seamless. The entire crew used a cloud-based workflow since they were in four different time zones throughout the world. The production was managed by using Ftrack and Sync software.

Virtual Production, that term covers a lot of bases. So let's talk about those basses and guitars [maybe synths] & shooting music videos in LED volumes. Here at StudioT3D, we are a few years into our exploration of final pixel in-camera shooting on LED walls & here’s what I’ve learnt. It’s tricky, but when you get it right it’s incredible - Walking into our lit stage with all 3 LED walls in use and great set design is an electrifying feeling. The barrier to entry can be high - Huge LED volumes cost a lot of money to design, build and maintain and I think that reflects where we are on the hype cycle with these technologies. Here at StudioT3D we aim to make these technologies more accessible. Moving things forward in the VFX pipe and get away from the fix it in post mentality is a learning curve - Although there are some neat tricks for aiding the inevitable additional comp requirements down the line - including a 'one button click' switch from real-time content to chroma green in our volume. The benefits keep staring me in the face. 1. Pre-production location scouting in VR without needing to drag everyone around the world. Using the same real-time engine project both in headset and on the wall. 2. Infinite golden hour shoot days. Find that perfect lighting and keep it dialled in for as long as you need. 3. Teleportation (kinda). We shot an ad that hit 6 locations in a single shoot day with some pretty rapid foreground set design turnaround! 4. You can shoot in dangerous places, safely. You can shoot in impossible places, convincingly. You can shoot in inaccessible locations and fantasy worlds without the jet lag & rocket fuel. 5. You can save on sending whole crews on an Indiana Jones style point to point adventure across the globe. Let's climb back up the trough of disillusionment and embrace the magic.
