I’m thrilled to celebrate the Great Bear Sea Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) alongside local partners, including the 17 First Nations of the North Pacific Coast, the Government of Canada, and the Government of British Columbia. This ground-breaking co-governed model builds on the success of the world’s first working PFP model, which TNC helped develop for the Great Bear Rainforest. It will support the protection of 10 million hectares of ocean waters with an aim to complete the First Nations’ vision of linking protection and stewardship across land and sea. CDN$335 million (US$243 million) in funding commitments will provide a secure environmental and economic future, in part by creating more than 3,000 new jobs. This follows Eternal Mongolia as The Nature Conservancy’s second PFP under Enduring Earth, the collaboration of TNC, World Wildlife Fund, The Pew Charitable Trusts and ZOMALAB. Congratulations to the First Nations, Coastal First Nations - Great Bear Initiative, Nanwakolas Council, Coast Funds and so many more who have contributed to this. It’s really inspiring to see thoughtful collaborations like this laying the groundwork for the future. Congratulations!
Amazing!

1wAwesome, David. Lots of important, inspiring and influential stories need to be told here in order for PFP’s to be embraced globally. Because as you know, great #leadership needs to be leveraged in order to educate and inspire the next generation of conservation leaders. The time is now. 👊🌿🇨🇦
