This summer, Davenport Police partnered with Davenport Parks and Recreation to distribute 250 complimentary pool passes to the youth in our community! Yesterday, Corporal Ryckeghem and Officer Montero had the pleasure of handing out these passes to some amazing kids, inviting them to enjoy a summer of fun and safety at the pool. Have a blast, stay cool, and remember, DPD is always there for you, Davenport!

The skyrocketing evictions occurring nationwide are having an impact on people and their beloved pets. Overflowing animal shelters have also become a national crisis. The dip in adoptions along with the rise in dog intake from unclaimed strays and owner surrenders is a complete 180 from the surge in adoptions of dogs and cats we saw during the pandemic. According to Shelter Animals Count (SAC), stray dogs taken in by shelters have risen 6% in the January to November 2023 period compared to 2022 and are up a whopping 22% since 2021! The costs incurred by synagogues, Jewish schools and other identifiable Jewish organizations post October 7th is staggeringly high. I know that just one synagogue’s annual spend in Toronto has gone up by six figures a year and the first digit may not be a one. And as much as there may be increased vigilance by police, these security costs in Canada are being borne by the Jewish community directly without defrayal from any government agencies. In the US where traditionally the mindset is that government is to do little relative to Canada’s approach to government having a more active role in the lives of day to day citizens it is telling to see direct financial support for the Jewish community’s security. Is it too much to ask for the same support in Canada?
Thank you to Gov. DeSantis for signing a bill to spend $20 million on security at Jewish Day Schools and preschools across Florida! It will cover security cameras, fencing, shatter resistant glass for windows and hiring extra security guards. The Gov explained that this is in response to the rise in antisemitism. Great work on taking action rather than just issuing statements like some other politicians. 😝 "It’s the kind of security that, frankly, no school should need. But unfortunately, we live in a time where Jewish kids need a little bit of extra security," said Rep. Randy Fine, the bill's co-sponsor. And Jamaal Bowman lost! It’s a great day.

I can relate to this article as I’ve personally experienced it when I started my own biz in my 20s. I thought I was mentally and physically prepared but little did I know the disaster that was waiting for me. Having a plan and sticking to it is important but also mentally preparing yourself of the challenges ahead as it’s going to be a bumpy ride. I’ve no regrets as it made me stronger and most importantly, I tried, I failed and I learned from it. Anyone else had similar experience? #lifelessons #keeplearningkeepgrowing #keeplearning #lifelessonslearned #sharingexperience #thinkpositive #positivevibes #positivemindset #newbeginnings #dontbeafraid #newopportunities #newchallenges
