By choosing to invest in existing building stock you not only contribute to the fight against climate change but you also help to preserve stories and culture for future generations, and support important heritage skills that are vital to many communities. Imagine.. traditional buildings doing all that by just being there. It’s worth it.
Each Irish farm building has a unique story to tell - a testament of hard work, resilience, and community spirit. They are a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship, cultural heritage, and practical functionality for the farm, making them an integral part of Ireland's countryside. Not only do they add character to our landscape, but they serve as vital sanctuaries for wildlife, offering shelter, nesting sites, and foraging grounds for bats, birds, and other creatures. Our Traditional Farm Buildings Grant Scheme with Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine is now open for applications. You may be interested in joining us for an information webinar about the scheme this Friday 1st March 2024 at 12pm. For all the details see https://ow.ly/7bSz50QIlXO In this video, we hear from Pat Chambers who received funding previously for his farm building in Mayo with a very unique story!

Board member, contributor, scribbler, speaker. Sometimes blunt. Not polishing my credentials for any more govt roles.
Silly question perhaps but what is the current figure for the amount of wildflower rich haymeadows lost since 1960 or 1970? Or name a date. UK or just England. It seems to be roughly the same figure we quote for this since 1985 - can that be true? Are we replacing more slowly than losing? Or are we replacing at a different rate? Where's the evidence to be found? Or do we just use the traditional old figure? Plantlife International National Trust

🌟 This week's Saturday spotlight features Kim Enns — master gardener, urban farmer, horticulturalist, AND the Rooftop Garden Coordinator at the YWCA Metro Vancouver Rooftop Garden. Kim's passion for horticulture has driven her appreciation for growing food to benefit people and community. After spending four years in the Fraser Valley working at a 20-acre certified organic farm, Kim has returned to the city and is now working with YWCA as an urban farmer. Here’s a sneak peek: VFR: What are your thoughts on using urban spaces to cultivate food? How can we support this more? And what are some other great examples in Vancouver? KE: I think it’s such an effective way to use urban spaces to cultivate food that could otherwise be empty. The impact it has on its micro-community is immeasurable, encompassing therapeutic effects, the practicality food accessibility, and education. Sole Food Street Farms is one of the original pioneers in Vancouver, utilizing parking lots and urban space, and is one of the best examples on how urban agriculture can be highly successful.

"La Placita Oaxaqueña’s success matters not only to Lopez and her neighborhood, but to businesses and communities across California. Making the sale of fruits and vegetables cost effective to corner markets and convenience stores could unlock access to wholesome food for millions in low-income communities across California and improve health outcomes. As of 2015, nearly 3 million low-income Californians lived too far from a full-service market to access affordable nutritious food, according to the United States Department of Agriculture. For urban communities, that means more than one mile and for rural communities, more than 10 miles." Check out this great article highlighting our Healthy Neighborhood Market Network program that is largely supported by City of Los Angeles's Economic Workforce Development Department. It's been over 10 years since the inception of the program and we continue to evolve to increase impact in the communities we serve. https://lnkd.in/gRu7yVK6

🌿 Exploring the Natural Wonders of South Carolina 🌎🦝 Greetings, everyone! Today, we're delving into the fascinating role that raccoons play in our local ecosystem. Have you ever been startled by a raccoon? Share your story in the comments below! 🙈 Raccoons are clever and adaptable creatures that have secured a place both in our hearts and in the natural world. They excel in pest control, helping to maintain a balanced ecosystem. Moreover, their curious behavior and intelligence make them true residents of South Carolina's wildlife. At Father Nature Landscape, we recognize the importance of coexisting with all forms of life around us. As stewards of nature, here are some recommendations for harmonious cohabitation with raccoons and other creatures: 1. 🍃 Avoid leaving food outdoors: By reducing food availability, we minimize the chance of attracting raccoons and other unwanted animals. 2. 🏡 Secure trash bins: Ensure that trash containers are tightly sealed to prevent raccoons from foraging for food. 3. 🌳 Maintain your garden: Raccoons often search for insects and small animals in lawns. Keeping your garden tidy can discourage them. 4. 🏠 Seal entry points: Make sure entry points to your home are sealed to prevent raccoons from seeking shelter indoors. Do you have more tips to share? Leave them in the comments as we continue to learn together about the wonderful wildlife that surrounds us! 🌿🐾 #HiltonHead #Bluffton #Raccoon # #FatherNatureLandscape #SouthCarolina #Hardscape #Landscape #landscaping
