Well duh! Just getting that out of the way. Joining an early-stage startup in the second half of your career is not a stress-free experience (this is where "well duh" goes) You don't have much to go on except "vibes" and a faith in the product. Well, Humantic AI had the right vibes and the product made my geeky lizard brain go "This makes people Sherlock Holmes!", but I can always do with a few more reinforcements. So when an investor casually drops a brand humblebrag like this, it really helps. Thank you Gokul Rajaram for the Monster energy shot straight to the veins. Exactly four months ago I was laid off. Rather than pounding the pavement in a rough job market, I made the choice to give consulting a go. Here's how it's going. 👉🏻 I very quickly signed my first two clients. One is a public fintech company where I'm functioning as an advisor to the CMO. The other is a seed-level data security startup, where I'm serving as a fractional VP of Marketing. Both are led by former bosses of mine. I'm delighted to work with them again. 👉🏻 I am getting to use a whole lot more of my skills than at previous jobs. I'm a bit of a marketing swiss army knife, and it's fun to stretch all those muscles rather than just being the Digital Marketing lead, the Web or MOPs director, or the Demand Gen head. 👉🏻 I am not burnt out in the slightest! I have about 30 billable hours booked/wk and I'm paying the bills with no problem. I don't work long hours. My garden is thriving, I see my friends again, and I'm sleeping SO much better. 👉🏻 And, I pick who I work with! (And I 💓 my clients -- I'm utterly devoted to their success!) I've said no to work that didn't feel right. 👉🏻 I cannot remember the last time my career made me this happy. Do I have a little heartburn about what happens when clients inevitably churn? Sure, but tech jobs are crazy volatile, anyway. You can be the golden child one day, and suddenly collecting severance the next. I think the risk is well worth the reward. Hiring a business development consultant to help analyze your business processes can be a money-saving decision. As an outside agent, a consultant is not bound by the “that’s-always-how-we-done-things-around-here” mantra, and is able to identify areas that can be improved.

My job is weird-- not because the work is odd. But because it's actually 7 jobs in a trenchcoat. If you're curious, here's what I do at Impactable: 1. Strategist - dictate strategy for high-spend accounts, interpret performance results, and set roadmaps for ad channels. 2. Account Manager - personally manage a handful of accounts (some I've had for over a year and won't ever let go ❤️). 3. Sales Manager - lead our team of Sales Reps/Account Managers who vet prospects for LinkedIn and us. 4. Sales Rep - talk to prospects (usually larger companies, 200+ employees) who can't figure out LinkedIn and need help 💪🏽 5. Sales Operations - I manage our HubSpot account, build workflows, and tinker with reporting. 6. Retention - when something isn't working out, I'll sometimes get pulled in to help figure out a resolution. 7. Office Manager - I order the snacks, water, and supplies for the office (which I very much enjoy doing). -- The startup life, am I right? To be fair, I enjoy doing the work here more than I have at any other job. It's incredible to be part of a team where you're building everything from the ground up. The work and effort you put into things are immediately visible and felt. I know some of you out there know what I'm talking about-- the highs are high, and the lows are low, but I wouldn't have it any other way. #startup
