The Department of Energy recently published a new report titled "Pathways to Commercial Liftoff: Innovative Grid Deployment." The report takes an in-depth look at the potential of advanced grid solutions that are currently available but underutilized. It provides perspectives on market opportunities, challenges, and actionable solutions for the commercialization of key grid technologies. We'd love to hear your thoughts on the report and which priorities you're working to integrate into your team's grid modernization journey. Watch this space because we'll be sharing our own take on the report in an upcoming blog! ✔️ By 2050, the world will need double the amount of electricity as it did in 2020. ✔️We will only reach #NetZero if we upgrade our electricity grid to cope with this extra demand, and with new and distributed sources of energy generation. ✔️ Grid Issue #1: It takes too long to approve and build grid upgrades. We need anticipatory investment and a radically streamlined planning and approvals framework. ✔️ Grid Issue #2: The whole world is doing this, at the same time. The supply chain is highly constrained, so we need to leverage our collective purchasing power to secure the production capacity needed. ✔️Grid Issue #3: It’s not clear exactly what needs to be built where. The Strategic Spatial Energy Plan needs to be well thought through with the right legal and planning status to execute against. 👉What other strategies do you think are needed to build electricity infrastructure and upgrade the Grid to achieve #NetZero? Smart grids and microgrids are not mutually exclusive; they can work together to create a more robust and sustainable energy infrastructure. Microgrids can operate as part of a smart grid, contributing to local power generation and enhancing overall grid resilience. As technology advances and the demand for clean energy grows, these innovative systems have the potential to revolutionize the way we generate, distribute, and consume electricity, paving the way for a more secure and sustainable energy future. #smartgrid #microgrid #gridinterconnection #gridmodernization #renewableenergy #energymanagement #energyinvestment #energyrisk #energytransition #sustainability https://lnkd.in/gvwhjCvU

GE Vernova’s white paper: "Managing Energy at Ports" explores how, through #Electrification, ports can make an impact on #EmissionsReduction and improve #energy surety in three key areas. In the section that explores Microgrid Configurations, our white paper evaluates how a #MicroGrid can improve energy availability, facilitate local integration of #RenewableEnergy, and help ports to scale up power supplies beyond their grid connections. Head of Engagement at Beyond Zero Emissions. Public Policy, Climate Change and Sustainability Specialist
Long duration energy storage (LDES) and its role in securing #energyreliability and achieving our decarbonisation objectives was core to discussions at the panel I had the privilege of joining at today’s Energy Storage Summit. It was great to hear views from Rahul Ramanan, Alex Grant (ARENA), Daniel Doherty (Energy Dome) and together with moderator Ben Hutton we discussed the technologies playing in this space (8-10 + hours of storage) along with the market mechanisms, policies and programs to support pilots, scaling and deployment. Was there a winner nominated in the LDES race? YES - diversity! We need to invest in a diversity of LDES technologies now to find the #technology mix that best suits an array of challenges we face in our progress towards a clean energy future. #energystorage

It was great to kick off the week discussing the clean energy future at the Current Issues 2024 Conference hosted by New Mexico State University’s Center for Public Utilities Advisory Council. We discussed some of the challenges and opportunities the industry faces to meet growing electricity demand. We also explored what’s needed to ensure grid reliability, affordability and the role of new technologies, such as reconductoring, to enhance the efficiency of existing transmission infrastructure. A big thanks goes to NARUC President and North Dakota Public Service Commissioner Julie Fedorchak for moderating and Nathan Hanson, Thomas Meissner and Freeman Shaheen for their contributions to this important and timely discussion. #CleanEnergy #Innovation #energy #electricity

Microgrids aren’t a new concept, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘸𝘦 𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘯𝘦𝘸 𝘸𝘢𝘺. Combined distributed energy resources can be employed while RECs and C&Is still remain connected to the central grid. These “grid-tied microgrids” can help establish better control over power supply while cutting costs. https://lnkd.in/ezyifZVF #microgrids #poweringtomorrow #distributedenergy #renewableenergy

Transmitting clean energy is as important as generating it. That's why we join Americans for a Clean Energy Grid (ACEG) to support #WhyTransmission. Building robust transmission infrastructure, including innovative technologies like those we're developing at VEIR, is essential for achieving our clean energy goals. This allows us to efficiently move clean energy from its source to homes and businesses, maximizing its impact. Join the #WhyTransmission movement and learn more: https://lnkd.in/euTuV4zX
