The data center capacity challenge won't be solved by data centers in orbit. The EU just spent $2 million on a study that projects that deploying data centers 900 miles above the earth could provide 10 MW of capacity by 2036. I love "moonshot" innovation stories, but the cost per megawatt and low yield will limit this to highly specialized deployments. #datacenter #space #cloud #ai https://lnkd.in/ezz4_GZV

I agree the cost metrics do not work yet. The value prop could be good if it is for out of orbit study or space based analytics. The issue is cost of innovation. When a new CPU, GPU, or LPU is required it will be cost prohibitive to change. We are doing stumping things in DC’s. Soon we will be moving from antistatic suits to maintain data center to SCUBA gear and plumbers for liquid cooled. Now Space Suits! Silly and not necessary as there is tech outside of those to keep data centers cool. Also, slat reactors will make sense for DC’s in the short future for clean power.

Too risky with so much space garbage flying around.

Seems to be crazy today. It reminds me of Columbus in 1492.
