Breaking into Investment Banking: A Numbers Game 🏦📈 Getting into a top IB is highly competitive, with acceptance rates as low as 1.27% at firms like Goldman Sachs. But don't let that discourage you! The key to landing an offer is to play the numbers game. Here's how: 1️⃣ Aim for ~30 interview processes. With an average acceptance rate of 3%, this gives you a reasonable chance of securing at least one offer. 2️⃣ Focus on networking to get interviews. Around 25% of networking calls lead to an actual interview. 3️⃣ Make 120 networking calls. This magic number should yield ~30 interviews, and ultimately, ~1 offer. Not only will this strategy increase your chances of breaking into IB, but you'll also build valuable connections that will last throughout your career. At Recruiter Base, we've aggregated ~3,000 validated emails and 15+ proven outreach templates to make your networking journey a breeze. Start playing the numbers game today and take control of your IB journey. #InvestmentBanking #Networking #CareerGoals

Demonstrating Client/Deal Experience in a PE Interview This is huge. And the challenges are different: 1️⃣ If you are at a small bank, going through off-cycle recruiting, the main challenge is displaying your ability to lead, manage, and close deals. 2️⃣ If you work as an Analyst at a major bank in New York, going through on-cycle recruiting, the challenge is spinning your pitches and early-stage deals to sound like real deals. 3️⃣ For those not in investment banking, the challenge is framing your experience to look like IB-style deals. Now, regardless of which one of the 3 challenges you’re facing, you have to be familiar with the numbers of ALL deals you’re presenting. You have to show off the "investor's view" of them. As you can imagine – that’s a lot of numbers. Choose max 3 deals to present and have the following outline for each: 🔹The company's industry, approximate revenue/EBITDA, and multiples (or estimated costs and benefits for non-deals). 🔹Your investment inclination towards the company's equity/debt or potential acquisition (or your interest in pursuing the project for non-deals). 🔹Qualitative and quantitative factors supporting your viewpoint. 🔹Key risk factors and potential mitigation strategy. For beginners, pick 1-2 pitches and present them as if they have progressed past pitching. You can use Capital IQ or the Internet for buyer or investor prospects and company-provided pitch materials to formulate projections. A good idea is to pretend that each deal is a prospective LBO and create a basic model, when making investment recommendations. Estimate IRR and analyse the risk factors by challenging yourself. If you find yourself having 1️⃣ or 2️⃣ challenge, where you have to demonstrate deal management or IB-style deal involvement, emphasize your unique contributions to each deal. Even the personal suggestions you made or the mistakes you rectified. 🛠️ #CainMann #IB #Interviewprep #privateequity

Candidates often focus solely on technical questions, overlooking behavioral interviews 😔 Yet, these are important for standing out! ⭐ To be sure that the stories you tell are all focused, and told efficiently, you can use the S.T.A.R. technique: S - Describe the SITUATION. T - Describe the TASK. A - Describe the ACTION. R - Describe the RESULTS. 🎤 Practice several of your favorite stories that you can mold to fit different types of questions. But we know it's not easy to break into IB 😔 One thing we always emphasize is the importance of mastering finance concepts. Why? 💬 Because knowing the definition and being able to verbally deliver it in an interview are very different skills. 🗣️ This is why mock interviews are essential. 📥 If you want our help to prepare for your interviews, DM us your email and we'll add you to the WSO Academy waitlist. 🚨 Don't forget to submit your application so you can get our application tracker for free! #investmentbanking #wallstreet #financecareers
