Last week, Andy Miller hosted the 'Navigating a career within Credit' webinar. Joined by our expert lineup of panelists, Alberto Ceron, Ifi Ekwere, Denisa Mitu, CFA, and Carlotta Munini, the session provided a multitude of key takeaways for our attendees, including: - Internships and beyond: extracurricular activity enhances your experience and knowledge, adding value to your professional journey. They also offer you insights into different teams or sectors, and could identify potential areas you might not have previously considered. - Be inquisitive: don't be afraid to ask questions, even the ones that seem simple such as 'why?'. This showcases your genuine interest in learning and understanding. - Showcase yourself: being able to do the job isn't everything. A crucial aspect of any role is bringing your own personal flare, acting with kindness, and displaying a positive attitude. This will leave a longer-lasting impression on those who matter. A big thank you to all of our panellists and attendees, we hope you enjoyed the session as much as we did! If you have any further questions on kick-starting your career in credit or would like access to the recording, please don't hesitate to reach out to the team at credit@dartmouthpartners.com. #credit #jobsincredit

Thrilled to share that I've completed a 2-day Introductions to Investment Banking Technicals course with City Investment Training. The first day featured a deep dive into the Investment Banking careers, cracking IB interview questions and ended with an introduction to Accounting for Investment Banking. Sameer Merchant, CFA on the second day delivered an insightful practical session on Introduction to financial modelling, student interview and a brilliant Q&A session. Some of the things that stood out for me on the first day was William Dustan sharing his inspiring experience on how with discipline and resilience he secured 5 internship offers as an undergraduate, the place of building relationships by finding commonalities, the quotes by Sameer Merchant, CFA which includes: "Banking is the only job that allows you to start speaking to CEOs in your early career stages", "Don't limit your applications to the big banks and that particular role" and the various books he recommended for beginners. The training ended with a practical financial modeling session and a practical financial modeling task which was a requirement in order to access the certificate. I'm happy to have gained so much value from the training. #investmentbanking #financialmodeling

Capital Markets Mentor | I Help Students Land $100k+ Jobs in High-Finance | Want to Land Your Next Internship? (Click On The Link Below ⬇️ for My FREE Training ⬇️)
🟢 In 2022, from the start of January to the 3rd week of March, I had one focus. Landing a US investment banking summer internship. During the week, I’d be at school by 5.30am. I’d send & respond to emails for 2 hours on Mon., Tue., and Wed. (response rates are much lower in the latter half of the week) I wanted to respond to East Coast bankers’ emails as soon as they replied. I hoped they realized what time zone I was in. 😴 (PST, btw) On Thu. & Fri., I’d spend that time studying other recruitment materials. I spent the mornings to late afternoons taking coffee chats, and between them, I studied technicals, prepared industry pitches & deal walkthroughs, and added more contacts to my networking list. I didn’t go to a single class that term. 0. Evenings were for homework. I knew the pressure of an impending deadline would keep me awake. I didn’t care I was taking 6 courses...I *needed* to get an IB offer. I devoted all my energy to recruiting. During exam season, I slept in school…I didn’t want to waste 2 hours commuting. On the weekends, I’d still go to school to study SOMETHING recruitment-related. I had ~100 coffee chats during that time and sent ~1,000 emails. I stopped exercising for those 3 months too. For those who know me, that’s pretty unusual. I stopped going out with friends and barely talked to my parents. Most days it was dark out when I got to school AND when I left school to go home. Yes, part of why I worked so hard was because I wanted to be known as ‘that guy’. But, that didn’t make it any easier. Mainly, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it. I wanted to see how far I could go. I felt crushed after my first 2 interview processes, Point72 and Evercore. They went terribly. And that was after I had spoken to 8 people from Evercore…you can imagine my despair. The routine I had was unhealthy, no doubt. My life revolved around recruiting. By the time March came, my eyes were dark orbs. Running on 4 to 5 hours of sleep every night had taken a toll. "Only a couple more weeks of this" Once I got the 1st round for Moelis I knew it was my last shot. The EBs were almost done. I studied my ass off for the superday. And I got the offer. I remember screaming in the library when I received the call. Finally. I immediately declined the Blackstone interview I was supposed to take later that week. I was exhausted. The mission was complete and I had achieved my goal. 3 days later, I got super sick. Like, the sickest I ever remember being. All the stress & sleepless nights had finally caught up with me. Was it worth it? 100%. I learned A LOT about myself. This isn't an experience common to all non-target students. But I hope it gives you a taste of the sacrifices required along the way. If you'd like to minimize those sacrifices, let's talk. (bit.ly/3YJfBqM) It ain't easy breaking in, but it sure is worth it. #investmentbanking #finance #students

I am excited as I reflect on the exhilarating 8-week adventure I've just completed at Lloyd's Banking Group. 🚀🌐 My internship was a dive into the world of liquidity management and settlement schemes via my school project, the insights gained were beyond expectation! 💡💰 Within the initial month, I immersed myself in the intricacies of Real Time Gross Settlement (#RTGS) and Deferred Net Settlement schemes (#DNS) The significance of #SWIFT messages in the settlement process fascinated me. Engaging with 10 thought leaders across various locations broadened my understanding of payment flow intricacies, while data became a trusted ally. 📊🔍 My focus sharpened on two crucial fronts: 1. Payment Throughput 2. Liquidity Management Armed with tools like Microsoft Excel, PowerBI, PowerPoint, and Word, I ventured into the world of complex data analysis. 📈💼 Post rigorous research, intensive data analysis, and enlightening interviews, I presented findings and recommendations. The response was heartening, yet my quest for depth led me to consider year-to-date analysis. Here, I encountered Excel's limitations, only to turn the challenge into an innovation. Directly connecting data storage to PowerBI brought about automation, simplification, and newfound efficiency. 🔄📊 PowerBI unearthed fresh insights that fortified compliance and liquidity strategies. These findings evolved into my second proposal, embraced by my managers for further action. The journey's rewards were not just academic but transformative, revolutionizing payment reporting processes. 📈🚀 This journey would've been incomplete without the exceptional guidance of my manager, David Potter, the support of Deb Clews, Samantha Emery and the invaluable opportunities provided by 10,000 Black Interns and Lloyds Banking Group. Gratitude to my school Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University for their unwavering support throughout. 🙌🏽💫 With immense pride, I'm excited to march forward, equipped with insights, skills, and connections forged during this remarkable voyage. Here's to growth, learning, and the exciting road ahead! 🚀

My 22 yr-old daughter applied for her first credit card and was denied by our bank. Her fate was decided by the lack of a single number. "She has no credit score," they explained. My response was candid, "So what! She has banked with you for 7 yrs. During this time, she has built her savings account to nearly $30k all the while working to pay her own way through school and life with no loans. She'll graduate this Dec with a degree in accounting (in only 3 years) through the Business Scholars program at the University of Utah. Last year, she interviewed at Tanner LLC for a summer accounting internship and not only did she get the internship but they offered her a part-time job a few days later so she's gainfully employed. And this young woman represents an unacceptable risk to your bank for a $1,000 credit card?" Rather than respond, they went on to explain that my daughter could get a secured credit card for ~12 months to build a credit score but her available balance would be $1k less to guarantee the card. I asked, "does the bank pay interest on that $1K you're reserving?" Their response, "no." It seemed to me that they were treating her like a complete stranger. Like there was no 7-yr history demonstrating her financial character. It's not that I don't understand credit, I do. I just think financial institutions should drop the word "relationship" from "relationship banking" if that's going to be their only focus. At the end of the day, maybe we're just a number (or the lack thereof). What's your experience? #wedigress #relationship #banking #lending

Ex-Goldman Sachs helping train students/recent grads to secure jobs in banking - 90% placement rate to banks like GS, UBS and JP.
🛑✋ How not to come across as DESPERATE when interviewing with investment banks? Financial services is an industry that values status.🕴️ Many students carry this MISCONCEPTION that by offering their internship services for free they will get hired. Banks don't want to hire someone just because they're CHEAP 🏷️. They want to hire someone because they can add value. Invest in yourself and stand out from the crowd of students. Ask yourself, do you know how to? 1. Build a financial model from scratch 2. Pull together an investment deck or 3. Value a tech start-up or a unicorn? All this by yourself? If no, then don't expect senior bankers at boutiques to spend their time training you. Also rember, bankers hire students partly because of their technical skills.. ...but also because they are likable. So make sure you invest in your people skills. 🤝 They have bigger fish to fry in these challenging markets. When I worked at Goldman Sachs, seniors were always moaning on how challenging it is to train new bankers. 👉 We are offering a 2 day course worth £1,000 for FREE to students who want to learn financial modelling. Drop your email in comments below and we will get back with a link to the training program. ❌ PS: Meant for students from Europe and North America only.

Data Scientist with 4 years of experience in end to end Machine learning, NLP, Deep Learning, Predictive Analytics, Python, SQL,, Spark, AWS, Azure, MLOps,Generative AI
During my last internship I implemented a credit default use case from scratch. That time I couldn't learn theory behind credit risk concepts, what factors analysts consider while analysing and developing models. This course though I audited it for financial reasons helped me a lot to understand how financial institutions handle credit and loan default scenarios. I finished the course though I won't be receiving certificate for it. PS I prefer to be greedy for knowledge/skills, not the medal you receive in the end. At the end of the day Knowledge will stay with me for years whereas the certificate has an expiry date. #creditriskmanagement #riskanalytics #coursera #dataanalytics

Prepare 10 min before and practice what would you say, if your are on the spot and VP/MD doesn’t show up 2. Have client names and contact information readily available 3. Send cheat sheet email to MD before the call if appropriate or even better if you have a cheat sheet so you could chime in 4. Prepare before the call, know background, who will be on the call, what do they know 5. Always announce yourself on calls, don’t hide, be visible 6. Always be prepared to turn on video camera for Zoom meetings (typically you don’t need to when you have not speaking role, but if everyone else turns it on you have to do so. You don’t want to be the stalking person who is afraid to turn on the video because your hair looks messy, and you wear an orange T-shirt 7. When in doubt turn on your video on a Zoom call. It is a way to build relationship with the client even if you don’t have a speaking role 8. Know how to introduce yourself. Practice it with your VP. They won’t think this is odd 9. Come up with small talk and phrases when joining the call early and you’re the only one from the bank 10. Write down how other opened the call and finished the call (sentences that can help you when your VP is late from calls) 11.-100.
