It is great to see the investment in innovative technology but technology alone won’t drive change. These technologies require a well designed clinical model of care and sustainable funding for the people who will use them in care settings across the system. These things are often an afterthought but it’s why so many of these technology led programs fail. We know the technology works, it’s the system and the funding that contines to fail us. Cate Swannell for the Health Services Daily Back in March Hunter New England and Central Coast PHN opened a grants process looking for innovative digital solutions to increasing access to primary care in its region. The results are in and this week the PHN announced the allocation of $1.485 million collectively to five “pioneering” projects. Originally committing $1 million, the PHN expanded its funding due to a massive response and the high quality of proposals received. #digitaltransformation

With over two decades of experience in global health strategies, Ella will contribute her expertise in international development and eye health to support IAPB's mission of making eye care accessible and affordable for all. IAPB is the overarching alliance for the global eye health sector, with more than 200 organizations in 100+ countries working together for a world where everyone has universal access to eye care. VisionSpring's organizational growth has been in tandem with achievements in the eye health sector, led by the work of the IAPB. In just the past few years, the United Nations has passed their first-ever resolution to eye health, the World Health Organization has committed to firm targets for eyeglasses and cataract coverage, and the UN has added eye health into their declaration on Universal Health Coverage. These remarkable advancements in our sector are a reminder that, "If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together." Ella's appointment to the IAPB Board comes at the same time that VisionSpring has upgraded our membership of the global alliance to a Band A Member, reaffirmed our commitment to the IAPB. The Canadian Medical Association Journal published a study this month (March 2024), looking at the high rates of physician incivility in the healthcare workplace. More than 75% of health care employees have witnessed uncivil behaviour from physicians,2 and 31% of physicians report receiving weekly or daily rude, dismissive or aggressive communication from other doctors. "Incivility" is a catch all term that could describe actions like: - Interrupting or talking over someone - Sarcastic or demeaning remarks - Ignoring or excluding others - Using dismissive body language - Being rude or abrupt in person or online - many others The study goes on to talk about how toxic workplaces contribute to the problem and the effect that it has on patient care. What it doesn't talk about is how important it is to REPORT that behavior and the barriers to why that does not happen. Whether your a patient or a provider, reporting physician incivility comes at a cost. A lot of those times that cost isn't worth it. Check the program https://lnkd.in/dzDZzK3M “Value-Based Health Care (VBHC) and Person-Centred Health Care (PeCHC) are important approaches to health care which aim to improve the outcomes that matter to people. VBHC seeks to do this by organising care around patients with a specific condition or common needs, standardising outcome measurement (using clinical and patient-reported outcomes) and cost measurement, using this data to perform comparisons and learning from those with better outcomes and the same or lower costs. PeCHC takes a more individualistic view that relates to the context, goals and preferences of a single person. PeCHC also enables meaningful involvement of people receiving care in health service design and health system strengthening. When considering the implementation of both of these approaches to health care delivery, we realise how little we know about the preferences and goals of people receiving care, and the extent to which we have met them and achieved the desired outcome.
