There is still so much work left to be done, and I will spend a lifetime doing whatever I can. When those closest to you do not reach out to thank you for your service on Veterans Day, we, as a society, have failed our veterans once again.
Veterans Day is a drop in the bucket of showing the gratitude you have for those who trade a normal life so you may have the ultimate blessing of living yours.
It is truly difficult not to take it personally and not to be angry on behalf of the one you love most and who has seen the utmost atrocities of war but remains humble and quiet and continues to fight silent battles no one else will ever see. One who will suffer every moment of every day for the rest of their lives.
We as a nation can do better, and we must. It is not about choosing sides; it’s about recognizing the ultimate act of sacrifice in another human being. It’s about showing gratitude that even if war is not what you would choose, someone has to go, someone will always have to go, and in this day, we almost ALL know someone who has.
“Thank you” goes so much farther than you think. Recognizing the sacrifice in others should be commonplace, not a reminder.
If you have not lived it and have not walked over the blood of your brothers and sisters, that is never a reason to let a day pass by when you do not appreciate and recognize that others have.
If there is one day a year created to “thank our veterans,” please take the time to thank them.

To the veterans I have the ultimate honor of knowing, loving, and standing in support of, “Thank you” seems painfully insignificant on days like today. Saying yes to your country and standing in front of its citizens is the ultimate act of sacrifice and patriotism. I can never thank you enough for fighting for me, my son, my family, and all I hold dear. Thinking of you today and every day, and my gratitude will never ever waver.
