A stark yet fascinating insight to some of the cases presented by Shell, The WellGear Group, and AF Offshore Decom at Decom Mission’s Safety In Decommissing event.
In our industry, we are working in hazardous environments where potential risk for accidents is heightened. A clear message shared by all, is that safety should be embedded in everything that we do across the energy business, never substituting this for factors such as efficiency.
Sharing more of these safety cases may well allow us to take what we have learnt, stop, pause and consider if our operations could become unsafe through comparisson.
Semco Maritime is proud to have our moto “Safety is part of our DNA” and this is what we stand by in all that we do. Safety is our core value, ensuring that we avoid any adverse impact on employees, stakeholders, assets and the environment.
It’s always a pleasure to meet with industry peers, associates and friends like Euan McIntosh at events like these. Well done to all involved, and keep up the great work Decom Mission.

1moCongratulations! Working in your tankers are safe now. In 1966, I was already working in a multi-product tanker of Luzteveco (Philippines) under Shell charter. That time, we don't have the STCW Code yet. We use only the "Blue Book. Too many things to learn yet. I experienced fire in the engine room, and explosion on board while we were tank cleaning. Ripped open was the tank main deck and hull. The hold was quickly flooded, the ship tilted badly and we had to abandon the ship.
