✨ Is AI reducing the need to write code? Yes, but is it a new story? Abstractions have always driven software development. When repetitive tasks emerge, developers build tools to handle them. Just like how databases evolved from the need to store and retrieve information from files, we now see commonly used modules becoming standalone products. 👉 Look at Stripe. When payment integrations became a common requirement, they productized it. Guess what? They became a $50 billion business! What about Redis? When devs struggled to write code to manage shared in-memory cache, they built a standalone product, and it turned into some $2 billion business. Now, products like Supabase, Descope, Tooljet, Typesense, etc., are doing the same. Even at Engagespot, we've been noticing an increased trend toward "Buy vs. Build." 💡Well, the reason is evident, as engineering talent becomes expensive, and time-to-market becomes critical, the question arises - "Why write code if it can be bought?" ❓But will it make developers extinct? No, it will only make coding more interesting. Because, now devs can focus on creating core things that nobody else can. 🕒 Back in the 1980s, devs used to code the TCP/IP stack in their application. It's now offered in the Kernel itself, so we can just focus on HTTP requests. What is the need to re-write TCP from scratch? 🤯 Software is all about abstractions. At the bottom, it's just 1s and 0s, and everything we see today has been built on top of the multiple levels of abstractions below it. So, this is not a new trend. Day 1: 23 failed attempts Day 2: 2 failed attempts Day 2.5: Success! This was my journey to hit a stretch goal of successfully deploying the backend of my application on Render to support browser requests. It's amazing how smoothly everything runs locally on your machine, yet when you move to deployment, it transforms into a gigantic, hairy beast. Conflicting data types, obscure error messages, and a host of other issues push you right out of your comfort zone. For any new developer feeling discouraged: keep going. That feeling, that fist pump, that head-down-on-desk-arms-in-the-air-moment when it all finally comes together is worth every failed attempt. #codingjourney #devops #softwareengineering #persistence
