In 2016 we packed up our future (and the books; I wouldn't let Richard leave my books), and moved to College Park, MD, so I could pursue and complete my PhD. There's not enough pictures to adequately illustrate what TeamKoonce experienced, but I'm happy to report, we grew, expanded, matured, and stayed together. And in 2024, I can finally call myself Dr. Danielle Koonce. Thank you to Richard, RK, Jimmy, and Sarah. They're the real MVPs. My dissertation committee at Maryland, my ECU Sociology family, SisterMentors, my UMD cohort, WQT, classmates and alumni, thank you. I will get in trouble if I start naming names but thank you. It's a different ending without all of you. The check-ins with friends, the prayers of my family, the support of several church families has been invaluable. My mother's ability to know when I needed her time and time again is priceless. In mama-fashion, she figured out the bus and train system from NC to MD, and the kids and I could hardly wait to greet her at College Park Station. She would step in with the kids filling in all the gaps, and filling me up in the process. There's a reason they are called GRAND-mothers. Speaking of GRAND-mothers, I started the program with both of them alive and well, pushing me to "finish yo schooling." And oh how I wish I could show them I PhinisheD. But they knew when I left NC, and I knew when they left Earth, that quitting was not an option. Thank you both, and thank God through Grace and Mercy, I'm PhinisheD. But who am I kidding...I'm just getting started. #CallMeDrKoonce #PhinisheD #GracedForThis
