Anyone with any corporate history in the automotive industry will appreciate how very serious this letter from Tesla to the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries is. I don't think the articles in press on this issue adequately communicate as much; the letter itself is worth a read.
Don't mistake this with Elon-like from-my-brain-to-my-fingers tweeting/X-ing/whatever-ing. This is neither a masterstroke of PR via the reg/pol department or an attempt to tweak market regulation favourably.
This is a very serious, very considered request on an issue that's elemental to all FCAI members: pricing strategies are critical to sales, particularly in vehicle sales with rapidly evolving technologies, fluctuating materials costs, market competition and demand-side evolution.
The FCAI's platform is significant, within which it is correct to highlight matters with the upcoming NVES reflecting issues that may materially affect its member interests - I've written in favour of this much. In doing so it did not need to make sweeping, unsubstantiated claims with material potential impact to business operations of it's members or any other impacted organisations.
Asides from undermining the legitimacy of efforts to hear all sides of a debate, Tesla's concerns are valid for the ACCC's consideration.
Most unfortunate that it has come to this. Tesla may not be the last, either.
