Last Friday we celebrated the awards. Today, we celebrated the people behind the awards. A grand haul of 18 wins. 7 Gold, 4 Silver, 6 Bronze and 1 Grand Prix! Whilst holding bragging rights for ‘effectiveness’, we are beyond ecstatic to also be crowned as most ‘creative’ at the recent 4As Advertising Festival. We are in a business of ideas and people. And thus, these awards are a culmination in the strong conviction of belief in our ideas and pushing to sell through to the client. We salute the 4As for a brilliantly organized and concluded festival, our clients who believe in us, and the team that rallies together - rain or shine - to bring it all to fruition. We believe dissatisfaction is the mother of reinvention. That’s why our icon is the octopus. It’s the only organism on the planet that routinely edits its own genetic material to adapt, innovate, and thrive. It outsmarts the competition by constantly changing. I am so glad that we have successfully organised a corporate event recently together with my team, the very first signing ceremony since I joined CGC Digital. Here are the top 3 lessons learned for me: 1. Prepare, prepare and prepare: Behind every successful event, lies detailed planning and preparation. Setting the objectives, defining roles and responsibilities, crafting event rundown. More importantly, prepare for the worst and develop a contingency plan for the actual day. 2. Ask, ask and ask: Staying curious is the key. There is no such thing as a stupid question. None of us is perfect so we may have missed out somehow or other. Start asking Who, What, Why, When, Where, How and How Much, it will help you to be crystal clear in what you do. 3. Communicate, communicate and communicate: I can't stress enough the importance of clear and timely communication especially when you are nearer to the actual day. Being part of a smaller outfit, each of us will have to put on multiple hats to ensure things get done smoothly, so being able to communicate well is critically important! Of course, it is also essential to take a moment to celebrate milestones achieved and take pride in our hard work. What would a conference visit be without the joy of meeting new people?! It was a pleasure, Kristina Smith-Meyer, having some rewarding exchanges on various lectures at the #DigiMarConNetherlands, e.g. the highly recommended lessons proposed by Olga Denisova from Semrush or some fundamental social media principles courtesy of Ogilvy's Tommy Wigley. Did ADCOLOR Conference and Awards do a call for nominations? I was planning to nominate Success in Black (a brilliant and novel organization, check them out!) but can't seem to find an opportunity to do so online. With all due respect, it is a problem when our inclusive spaces function more like sororities and fraternities where you have to know someone who knows someone who knows someone who sponsored someone to get involved. It shouldn't be easier to nominate or self-nominate for The Anthem Awards, or heck, even Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, than it is for an awards program literally about recognizing people of color in the industry doing amazing work. (and not just those with the most impressive connections). Please do correct me if I'm wrong/missing something! #responsiblemarketing

I still want to talk about Cannes. And not in a justify-my-expenses way (though every LinkedIn post helps). But I do want to share 10 reasons why #CannesLions2024 was worth it: 1. It's still a celebration of creativity and a reminder that brand building, marketing and communications can solve commercial as well as cultural problems. 2. You get to cry twice in one day because you're just that inspired by powerful campaigns and powerful women 3. Seeing the winners on stage and on the red carpet helps you remember why those occasional long hours in our industry are worth it. 4. Your step count justifies all the canapés, drinks and snacks you couldn't say no to. 5. You hear from the best of the best - across sectors and disciplines - like a professional pick 'n' mix of panels, sessions and parties. 6. It pushes you hard to consider the balance of comfort over style and how many showers are reasonable in one day. 7. You bump into old colleagues and make new connections through easy and authentic interactions in a way you can't at home. Who said you can't meet your heroes. 8. You develop a point of view that isn't regurgitated jargon, but is actually based on your own thoughts, feelings and experience. 9. You're reassured that the industry is moving in the right direction - being the Community-First Creator Agency couldn't feel more pertinent. Go Buttermilk. 10. You come home wanting to just.... be better. I can't tag all the legends I met, but thank you for filling my Cannes cup.
