Inspiration, collaboration, and sense of belonging: three words that encapsulate last week’s Media & Tech Con at our Berlin headquarters. And three guiding principles to lead us towards the next transformation phase. With a record number of registrations of more than 1,000 colleagues from six countries, our biggest internal employee event was able to build on last year´s success. No wonder, as the program was packed: More than 80 sessions were offered by over 170 employees for their colleagues – a third of which centered on Generative AI. 38 units presented themselves and their projects. From keynotes and discussion rounds to workshops and lots of things to try out, the event created a space which ensured that knowledge about AI and other relevant topics does not sink into silos. This is exactly how we benefit from the variety of our diverse companies and people. A few weeks ago, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Austin, Texas, for what is probably the biggest event for those of us in the creativity or business world. SXSW it's a massive 10-day event where cutting-edge topics are discussed, and this year, Artificial Intelligence was undoubtedly the star of the show.   It's hard to sum up everything I experienced alongside my great colleagues Ferry Bol and Michal Ryszkiewicz. There was so much to see, with over 100 talks and events daily, we could only attend a fraction of them. But here are some of the highlights that stood out to me:   1st. There was this mind-blowing talk titled "Billion Dollar Teams: The Future of an AI Powered Workforce". It provided clear and insightful insights into the role and application of Artificial Intelligence in a company, erasing any fears about its implementation and even providing examples from an advertising agency. https://lnkd.in/dVJjUqsE   2nd. Another big topic that was discussed was "Workplace." Amidst all the technology and innovation, the talk that resonated with me the most was about happiness in the workplace. Because when people are happy, the results speak for themselves.  https://lnkd.in/dqTz4yq3 3th Fentanyl. There was this unforgettable moment when I saw a girl dancing in front of a traffic light at 8:45, and when I returned to the hotel at 7:00 PM, she was still there, dancing away. Looking into her eyes felt like looking into another world, impossible to put into words. It wasn't about someone asking for money on the street; it was about people who seemed like they were from another planet, not aggressive at all, just emanating kindness.   4th Brand experiences were also fascinating, with companies like Porsche, Yahoo!, Meta, and Netflix impressing the demanding audience.   5th  I got to be in close proximity to influential figures like Uber's CEO, Brooke Shields and see for the first time a Tesla Cybertruck. Plus, getting a behind-the-scenes look at how the U2 concert in Las Vegas was prepared and attending a real rodeo in Texas were unforgettable experiences.   6th The biggest challenge was choosing which talk to attend each day. But taking the time to explore different topics outside my comfort zone, like sustainable mobility or the changing relationship between a football club and its fans with new technologies, proved to be incredibly inspiring for future campaigns.   7th Whether you're a CEO, HR professional, programmer, senior, junior, or trainee in any department, SXSW is a must-attend event. It's a gathering of restless minds seeking inspiration, knowledge, and networking opportunities.

The conference season is off to a big start this year, and I've already attended several big tent gatherings across the country. No matter where I went, the overwhelming theme, if not the mandate, of these conferences was AI + AI + more AI. I signed up for two dozen AI presentations and went into them with an open mind and notebook, ready to learn. But what struck me most about these sessions was the presenter's inability to hold the audience's attention. Despite the incredible resources spent on whiz-bang presentations and the declarations of AI's world-altering powers, most audience members sat in their seats, doom-scrolling through their emails and social media. While all events these days entail some amount of smartphone distraction, the preoccupation with handheld devices at these AI presentations was off the charts. I felt bad for the speakers because I know how much time, energy, and effort goes into preparing a tight, coherent presentation. But these audiences weren't present to the content the speakers put together. Why couldn’t these audiences put down their phones for 30 minutes to pay attention to the insights on how AI would change their lives, careers, and businesses? Because the human element, drama of life, and universal power of stories were left out of nearly every AI lecture I attended. A tremendous amount of money is being funneled into sponsoring these AI conferences, and many tech companies, consultants, and equipment suppliers are anxious to cash in on the massive payday from the anticipated wholesale changeover to this new way of living, working, selling, communicating, managing, and conducting business. Getting audiences into the content of AI at conferences requires focusing less on technological capabilities and more on understanding what naturally attracts the interests of humans and can hold their attention for 30-60 minutes, which, I admit, is not easy to do in this hyper-distracted world. What a conference!
