"OpenAI suffered a security breach in 2023, the New York Times reported. The American newspaper revealed that the threat actors gained access to the internal discussions among researchers and other employees, but they did not access the source code of the company’s systems. OpenAI hasn’t publicly disclosed the security breach before and did not notify law enforcement authorities because no information about customers or partners had been stolen." 🌟 Algorithm Assurance: Navigating the Digital Landscape As a 'morning trainer' for the masterclass 'auditors in the public sector' (hosted by Rijksacademie voor Financiën, Economie en Bedrijfsvoering), I had the privilege of diving into the fascinating world of algorithm assurance. In the afternoon, two more sessions followed, and together with fellow trainers, we explored AI within the Dutch government. From machine learning models to recommendation engines, algorithms shape our digital experiences. But how can we trust them? How do we ensure they don’t inadvertently perpetuate biases or make unintended decisions? Is algorithm assurance even possible? A lot of questions were asked and we loved the interactions. Here are three key takeaways from yesterday’s sessions: Transparency Matters: Demystify the black box! Understanding how an algorithm works is essential. Document its decision-making process, inputs, and outputs. Testing and Validation: Just like a safety net, testing and validation are crucial. Simulate various scenarios, edge cases, and real-world data. Ensure your algorithm performs 'reliably'. Ethical Considerations: Algorithms aren’t neutral; they reflect the biases in their training data. Be vigilant about fairness, privacy, and ethical implications.
