Africa, home to about 16% of the global population and bearing 23% of the global disease burden, has historically received a disproportionately small share of global health funding. For Janet Aika Matemu, our Partner at Dalberg Design in Nairobi, the challenges present promising opportunities for universal health coverage and stronger public–private partnerships. Know more about her vision for a more connected health system integrating community health initiatives. https://bit.ly/3VyilGf #GlobalHealth #CommunityHealth #UniversalHealthCoverage #Africa #EquitableHealthcare

I've always been interested in public health approaches because it seems to me we have this yearning for silver bullets, and that is not in fact how change comes about. Change comes through silver buckshot — a lot of little things that achieve results. That's a classic public health approach. Through taking preventive, promotive and protective measures has a way of taking control and finding a way to curtail the explosive costs of health care in our country, Kenya. #preventivemedicine #healthpromotion #healthprotection #ministryofhealth

Today as part of the #HealthPromotion, Risk Communication, and Community Engagement Unit (#RCCE) of the #MinistryofHealth in #sierraleone Annual Retreat, I highlighted the importance of #Researchanddocumentation in #healthpromotion and also emphasized that by conducting thorough research, #healthcareprofessionals can gather valuable data and evidence to inform health promotion strategies and interventions. I also informed the participants who were mostly Health education and promotion line managers and sub-directors from various #MDAs that research and documentation will enable them to make informed decisions and develop effective programs that can be use to address the specific needs of individuals and communities. #WHO, #Afenet Sierra Leone, #UNICEF Sierra Leone, #CDC Sierra Leone, #Breakthrough ACTION Sierra Leone, #Africa CDC.

Technical Director, Social and Behavior Change, Corus International SBC Lead, MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience
It's inspiring to see Corus International Integrated Health Resilience Activity (IHSD) adapting to challenging environments like Haiti's. The partnership with USAID, Haiti's Ministère de la Santé Publique et de la Population, and local partners demonstrates a concerted effort to address the complex issues facing the country's health system. Engaging #communitybased organizations through a competitive #smallgrants program is a smart approach, as it fosters #localownership and #empowers #communities to address their own health needs. By working in partnership with communities, #CHWs, and care groups, IHSD is not only increasing #healthybehaviors but also building #sustainable solutions that strengthen the overall health system. In contexts like Haiti, where socio-economic challenges and security issues are prevalent, such #adaptive and #communitydriven approaches are crucial for making meaningful and lasting impacts on #publichealth. It's a testament to the #resilience and dedication of all involved in this initiative.
Haiti faces volatile political, security and humanitarian crises that have had a profound impact on its health care system. The USAID-funded Improved Health Service Delivery – Integrated Health Resilience Activity (IHSD) is working to improve access to quality, patient-centric primary health care services in six departments of Haiti. Alongside our critical local partners, IHSD has strengthened health facilities and community programs to increase availability, access and use of quality health services during the previous quarter of implementation. Corus organization IMA World Health is committed to advancing equitable and sustainable health care for all. 💡 Learn more: https://bit.ly/4aIq7Tk #Haiti #Partnership #HealthCare #HealthSystemsStrengthening #CommunityHealthCare #PrimaryHealthCare #LocalCapacityStrengthening

The health and well-being of the people is the foundation upon which the progress, development, and prosperity of a nation is built. When people are healthy, they can actively engage in various aspects of life, education, work, etc., and contribute to the overall development of their countries. By mitigating health disparities, ensuring access to high-quality healthcare, and focusing on disease prevention and management, nations in Africa can build a stronger foundation for a thriving future. Through this, we would not only enhance the well-being of the populace but also establish the prerequisites for sustainable economic and social progress across continents. #healthequity #healthforall #communityhealth #InSiGHtHealth

The Kenyan Government in partnership with key stakeholders ought to have established a readiness contingency plan as stipulated by the WHO comprising of:Risk(s) review & assessment,a well-outlined anticipatory action plan, early response ,triggers & pre-agreed decision-making rules in order to reduce overall impact of the floods( morbidity, mortality, socioeconomic consequences, resources for response & recovery amongst other confounding effects)
Our health system is submerged, literally. Watching this over and over breaks my heart given the strides that have so far been made towards primary health care interventions: how does such a hub function? where are our pregnant mothers delivering from?Never before have I seen such devastating effects of mother nature (read climate change) on our health system. This reminded me of the Africa Health Agenda International Conference (AHAIC) last year when Dr. Githinji Gitahi cautioned us that, paraphrased....it is a matter of when and not whether Africa will be faced with another epidemic/disaster similar to covid 19; is our #healthsystem ready to combat this?"....this morning I ask myself this question and make a clarion call that we #refocus and #repurpose our programming to collectively manage this threat, not only now but also put systems to manage the ongoing #climatechange insult on our health system #climatechangeimpactonhealthsystems

One Heath is beyond just a concept, but a practical solution to major global health challenges. Setting up systems of early detection of emerging zoonoses, or monitoring and regulating the use of antimicrobials in animals are just examples of the one health approach in prevention of NTDs and AMR. Leveraging institution partneships and collaboration in the fields of Human health, animal health and environmental studies is one of the #OneHealth multidisciplinary strategies to achieve the Agenda 2063. Happy #onehealthday2023
In honour of #OneHealthDay2023, we all need to embrace #OneHealth approaches to prevent, respond to, and control public health events on the continent and to achieve Agenda 2063: The Africa We Want. #TheAfricawewant #OneHealthDay2023. #NewPublicHealthOrder

Global Health | Health Systems Strengthening | Policy Advocacy | Strategy Execution | Program management | Writer | Speaker
Over the last year, I have been closely working with other #Global Collaboration Partners to address health inequities that were laid bare by the #COVID-19 #Pandemic, #emerging infectious diseases, and the interconnectedness between #climate change and health were increasingly recognized. I have learned from colleagues, partners, and systems on the importance of robust #health systems and global #cooperation in responding to health crises and the mentioned inequities. Health is not a preserve of a few privileged ones! Thus, a refocus on the global health system was necessary. I am happy that in #Kenya the health shifts have been momentous! From curative focused healthcare to an integrated #preventive and #promotive health provision. The base of the pyramid, #PHC has been reinvigorated and recalibrated. From Primary Care Networks to Compensated, Digitized, Trained and Kitted Community Health Workers (#CHWs) named Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Kenya. But are we winning? That is why a balanced #scorecard on health has never been more necessary! Are we focusing on the client needs, improving internal health processes, focusing on innovations and learning in health as well as ensuring that we still make our stakeholders- investors, governments, donors and partners happy. We have to be bolder, tackle these issues head on and win together.
