🌟 Outcomes of the NCN Carbon Summit The recent NCN Carbon Summit brought together industry leaders and experts to identify action opportunities for Kenya's carbon markets and establish a pathway for the newly formed Carbon Markets Association of Kenya (CAMAK).  Here is a summary highlight of the summit outcomes: 📈 Vision for Kenya’s Carbon Markets: Katie Hill from Boston Consulting Group (BCG) illuminated Kenya's status as Sub-Saharan Africa's second-largest voluntary carbon credit supplier. Her insights emphasised the country's potential in carbon avoidance and removal credits, highlighting key policy needs for future growth. 📊 Demand Perspectives: A panel discussion featuring Climate Impact Partners and Jake Reynolds of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer underscored carbon buyer perspectives on robust project support, verification processes, and integrating internal carbon reductions with voluntary market participation. 📜 Regulatory Developments: Dr. Anne Nyatichi Omambia, Ph.D. from NEMA and Christina Nduba from Bowmans (Law Firm) delved into Kenya's newly gazetted carbon regulations. Discussions centered on NEMA’s pivotal role as the Designated National Authority, the National Greenhouse Gases Inventory, and setting a carbon budget aligned with Kenya’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). 🚀 Regional Engagements: Paul Muthaura of the Africa Carbon Markets Initiative (ACMI) Initiatives highlighted regional growth opportunities, stressing integrity, data accessibility, and the role of developer groups like CAMAK in advocating policies and advancing industry knowledge. 🔍 Breakout Sessions: Thematic breakouts focused on enablers, policy actions, and collective steps to drive industry growth. Outcomes from these sessions are shaping CAMAK’s strategic roadmap. 🌳 Networking and Site Visit: Attendees explored the Centre for Ecosystem Restoration - Kenya Highland Hub at @Brackenhurst Botanic Garden & Forest, Kenya’s sole accredited botanic garden. This visit underscored the critical roles of biodiversity restoration and carbon sequestration in climate action.
