Our recent systematic review on missed nursing care during the COVID-19 pandemic has just been published! The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented pressure in many healthcare institutions, affecting the delivery of nursing care. Findings of our systematic review showed a shift in the nature of missed nursing care during the pandemic, with an emphasis on nursing care tasks vital for the recovery of patients with COVID-19. Additionally, an inadequate nursing workforce continued to be identified as the primary reason for missed care, consistent with the pre-pandemic period. #covid #nurses #nursingcare https://lnkd.in/g3xfjA4y

I'm excited to share a crucial study on LinkedIn: "Hospital Nursing Resources Tied to COVID-19 Survival." 🏥💉 This research highlights the significant impact of hospital nursing resources on patient outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings indicate that both in-hospital death and 30-day postdischarge mortality rates are closely linked to the availability and quality of nursing care. This underscores the vital role of adequate nursing support in enhancing patient survival rates and recovery post-discharge. #Healthcare #Nursing #COVID19Survival

Medicare-Medicaid Mandated Nursing Home Operational Changes For companies who are developing or selling medical technologies and services for the US nursing home market the recent federally mandated operational changes could be of interest. **** The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) issued a final rule in May 2024 outlining nursing homes minimum staffing standards. Staff includes primarily nurses and nursing aids. This rule establishes, for the first time, national minimum staffing requirements for nursing homes participating in Medicare and Medicaid, the two largest public health plans in the US. Medicare may cover skilled nursing care in a Medicare certified nursing home. To do so care must be medically necessary and does not include custodial care such as assistance with bathing, eating and other daily activities. Over 1.2 million residents receive care in Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing homes. CMS expects non-rural facilities to be following the minimum standard by May 10, 2027, and rural facilities by May 10, 2028. A high-level summary of the final rule's key staffing standards can be found below, -) Provide nursing home residents with a minimum total of 3.48 hours of nursing care per day, which includes at least 0.55 hours of care from a registered nurse per resident per day, and 2.45 hours of care from a nurse aide per resident per day. -) Have a registered nurse on site 24 hours per day, seven days per week to help mitigate against preventable safety events and deliver critical care to residents at any time. -) Conduct a stronger annual facility assessment than is currently required to improve the planning and identification of the resources and supports that are needed to care for residents based on their acuity during both day-to-day operations and emergencies. -) Develop a staffing plan to maximize recruitment and retention.
