Meet White House Fellow Anna (sumo) G. from Cherry Hill, State of New Jersey 👏 Anna is an officer in the United States Space Force, having most recently served as the Commander of the 3d Test and Evaluation Squadron, leading a team of over one hundred #Guardians in the development and execution of first-of-kind missions to protect and defend space capabilities. She taught #astrodynamics and #rocketpropulsion at the United States Air Force Academy and served as both a Flight Test Engineer and Program Manager for multiple aerospace systems that enable missions of the highest national priority. Yesterday was my last day at Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) . Frankly, I cannot imagine ever having this much fun at work again. The freedom to explore and learn that the Department of USAF Fellows Program provides in general is a phenomenal experience but having that kind of latitude at a truly special organization like DARPA is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. From how empowered the Program Managers are to do whatever they think is right to the teams of enablers across the SETA teams, security, contracts, and facilities, DARPA is a special place that should be every technologist’s dream job. I learned an immeasurable amount about the intersection between academia, venture capital, corporate research and development, and where the Department of Defense is laboring to be in the next 5 to 10 years. However, and at the risk of sounding trite, more than anything I value “the friends I made along the way” at 675 Randolph. I am so genuinely thankful for this last year, and I cannot thank the people across DARPA enough for letting me be a part of their activities. My next assignment is at the five-sided fun palace called The Pentagon, working at the OSD Cost Assessment & Program Evaluation (CAPE) in the Space and Intelligence Division. I have already had an opportunity to meet with some of my fabulous new coworkers and am so thrilled to have an opportunity to help with this year’s budget build and review teams. Physically I will be on the third floor above the food court, so if you are waiting for your Starbucks order to come through, I would love to catch up during that half hour! Finally, Nancy Guida, Gianna, and I onboarded a new member of our team (Giovanni) back in October. He is adorable (picture for supporting documentation), and we are so blessed to have him complete our family.

On Friday morning, Hoover Institution Director Condoleezza Rice presided over a promotion ceremony in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Alphanso A. (US Air Force) and Commander K.R. Reinhold (US Coast Guard), of the 2023-24 class of the Bob and Marion Oster National Security Affairs Fellowship Program. Adams was promoted to the rank of colonel, and Reinhold was elevated to the rank of captain. The Hoover Institution commends their service, sacrifice, and steadfast commitment to the nation.
